that's useful to know thank you
Interestingly the February statement says on or immediately after 24th when they normally take it on the 20th-23rd, I can adjust my sheet and see if they take it on the 23rd (Monday) or not
Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:
People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

Never seen that on my account. Always taken on day they are supposed to be as company advise it will be taken, such as mortgage o 1st of month. Never early, even when 1st is a weekend.

They always take it on the day they advise but there are 2 dates, the due date and the collection date which is the working day before the due date. I have Santander CC statements going back to 2015 and all are the same. - unless they have changed recently as I no longer have that card.
And I was wrong about Virgin, they don't do it. It was Tesco that take the DD 5 days before the due date or the next working day but the 5 days is always the date quoted.
Never associate with idiots on their own level, because, being an intelligent man, you'll try to deal with them on their level - and on their level they'll beat you every time.
Being hated by idiots is the price you pay for not being one of them.

Santander put the date they're going to take the direct debit on the statement (or at least they are on mine)
I consider myself to be a male feminist. Is that allowed?0 -
This is on you, not them, I cannot see how you feel your position is in any way reasonable.

This thread has got confusing. Some are talking about DD's on debit & others are talking about DD to pay card..

Agree this is becoming confusing. As noted, the OP was (sadly) at fault - and a DD would have prevented that mistake.
