MSE Cheap energy club -British Gas Collective Feb27 problems
Comments

British Gas complaints came back to me this morning confirming my transfer to MSE lighter Feb27 v1 and offered me £70 compensation which I have accepted. No answer why I was rejected for the Collective Feb 27 but I am satisfied with the final outcome.

Through the MSE Cheap Energy Club, I signed up for the BG Collective Nov26 Tariff which started on 01 October 2025 but then changed to the BG Collective Feb27 Tariff which started on 04 Feb 2026.
Did I do the right thing by switching to the BG Collective Feb27 Tariff or would I have been better to stay on the BG Collective Nov26 Tariff?
There was no word from MSE as to whether it was beneficial in switching between these two tariffs.

When I switched through the Cheap Energy Club it did a comparison and told me if it was beneficial before I went ahead with the switch. Maybe you could contact them by email

Hi all.
I'm curious if anyone reading this thread, who switched to the Collective Nov26 tariff with BG, have noticed their current online tariff details don't tally with the autumn 2025 BG confirmation email.
Mine (standing charges and kwh rates across gas and elec) are higher than those set out in the email. I only noticed this on receipt of my first bill. I have accounted for VAT when comparing the bill and AIUI the rates in the confirmation email, and in 'Your Tariff' online, should equate since both are inc VAT (they don't).
Thanks.

Can you give us the promised figures, the actual figures and the region?

@WiserMiser sorry for the late reply.
I believe the region is Eastern England (10). Below are the two sets of figures. I am not sure if the promised rate was ever in effect and changed post October '25.
BG confirmation email 01/10/25
online account now
gas s/c
21.71
25.80
gas
5.35
5.43
elec s/c
48.03
51.10
elec rate 1
27.80
28.88
elec rate 2
14.37
14.85
Thanks.

• Are you sure you really were switched to Collective Nov26 tariff?
Often these deals are available to a limited number of sign-ups, or for a limited period. What is the name of the tariff shown on your latest bill?
• Why are you on a two-rate electricity tariff (Economy 7 or whatever) when you have gas?

@WiserMiser Confirmation email of 01/10/25, latest bill and current online tariff details (Your tariff) say Collective Nov26.
But the rates displayed on the online account are higher across the board. For my last bill it equates to about 20GBP so over the the course of the tariff, it will be more like 50GBP.
I was on single rate electricity but during a switch, a supplier error resulted in my being put back on dual rate. TBH the difference in that respect is negligible. Point is the promised tariff and that in effect are dual rate, so there is no discrepancy in that respect.
So what do you make of the differing rates I set out above?

Not doubting what you say, but please could you post a screenshot of the whole online bill? (Redact personal info including the meter serial numbers and the account number.)
The only things that come to mind immediately are that for some reason BG put you on some tariff other than Collective Nov 26, or that the confirmation email and the online account are not based on rates applying to the same regions.
A side by side comparison should help to make things clear.
Make sure you have paper copies of all bills: when there's been a problem BG have a nasty habit of deleting all previous bills and reisissuing them, so it can be very hard to see what went wrong.

@WiserMiser I also checked the last but one quarterly bill, which includes the opening month on this Nov26 tariff. It exhibits the same, incorrect, tariff rates.
Some more information I should perhaps provide: I checked my statements (I was already a BG customer) and I was switched, from single rate, to dual rate electricity with the Collective Nov26. I believe switches via comparison sites don't 'handle' single rate when the consumer is on a dual rate meter. Not a problem for me as such. But this may well be the crux of the problem. However I still have the tariff rates confirmed by BG on date of inception. I have pdf versions of my statements hopefully safe and sound. Here is an excerpt from the last bill. Problem is explaining this to BG customer service would test the patience of a saint. The company is not what it was.
