I have tried to transfer to this tariff and have been refused. I am an existing customer in credit. The MPAN/MPRN numbers are correct.

I have done online chat with British Gas 3 times and have been told

  1. My area cannot have this tariff it is not available until the end of the month
  2. This tariff is gas only and I am a dual fuel customer
  3. British Gas have not refused the transfer

In desperation I phoned them & spoke to someone who told me British Gas cannot see this tariff & do not know why/if I have been refused. She said they are having multiple calls about this & she has referred it to another team.

MSE have said they don’t know why it has been refused.

Think I will just give up MSE

Just to add I have emailed the cheap energy club but as the tariff ends tomorrow I don’t hold out much hope

    same for me

I’m an existing British Gas customer on a fix tariff

I tried to switch to the BG Collective Tariff via MSE energy club but have had my application rejected

Was advised by MSE to contact my supplier (BG) to discuss and find out why which I’m at pains to do as the online chat and customer call centre helpline is not great

One of the online chat advisors told me to apply again so I have. Will see what happens next. My current fix does not end until April so I will be leaving British Gas if I can find a cheaper tariff elsewhere once I have no exit fees.

The Big Energy Switch II is a collective switch from MSE that offers a special deal from one of 2 suppliers, British Gas being one of them.

Both suppliers agreed to 'MSE Enhanced Service'. That means if there's an issue, go to the supplier first, but if it doesn't sort things, contact the Cheap Energy Club and they can and will escalate it and try to help.

MSE will want to help, because if the switch you requested does not go ahead, then MSE will not get paid.

@DodgerPot , you say you are at pains to contact BG. Perhaps @Skint_yet_Again can assist you in that issue as they seem to have been able to contact BG several times already.

If you continue to stuggle with modern technology, whether that be live chat, telephone or using the online contact form, you can write to British Gas at:

Customer Care Team, PO Box 226, Rotherham S98 1PB.

@Skint_yet_Again, you say BG say they do not know why they refused your tariff transfer. Well if they don't, I don't know who is supposed to know as it would appear it was BG that refused you. I suggest you start a formal complaint against BG, and tell MSE too so they can apply some pressure on BG to resolve this,

Do not worry that the tariff is due to be pulled tomorrow. It appears there is no dispute from either MSE or BG that you both applied for it. Assuming there is no real objection from BG once they uncover why you were originally rejected, then there should be no issue placing you on the tariff you requested, and even probably backdating it to when you wanted it to begin, irrespective of the fact that the tariff may no longer be on sale by that time.

Alternatively, consider ditching and switching to an even cheaper deal.

Note that the tariff you applied for is a 12m fix and has early exit fees attached of £50 per fuel

Alternatively, dependant on when in April your current fix expires, worst case scenario is you have to wait about 4 weeks to be able to switch supplier without penalty. You can almost certainly find a cheaper tariff than the BG collective tariff today, and I feel confident you will still be able to do so in 4 weeks time. (even if different to what is on offer today)

I have done another application via MSE energy club to try to get the cheaper tariff especially as applications end tomorrow

    So fingers crossed 🤞

update on trying to switch again to British Gas Collective Tariff via MSE energy club.

    Email rejection again from MSE

    Email as below

Unfortunately, part of your switch was rejected

Unfortunately, your supplier has told us that part of your switch was rejected. It should have already let you know, but it can take a while for suppliers to send us an update. As the switch wasn't accepted we can't pay cashback.

We haven't heard about the other fuel yet, but we'll let you know when we do.

If you think this isn't right, do get in touch with us by emailing energyclub@moneysavingexpert .com

We can't tell you why this happened, as suppliers don't share that information with us. Common reasons include:

    • A mistake in the application;

    • If you cancelled in your cooling off period;

    • Or if your current supplier blocked it due to debt on your account.

You could get in touch with the supplier (if you haven't already) to find out more and to see if you can resolve the issue and continue the switch.

Or you could try switching to another provider - though there's always a chance you could get rejected again.

I’ve tried a few times to contact BG via online chat in relation to this issue. As yet online system saying busy try later

I'm unable to get a "Pay on Receipt of Bills" quote.
I can only get a quote if I select the monthly direct debit option as my current method of payment on the Engery Club site.

Has anyone had any sucess with the "Pay on Receipt of Bills" with the MSE collective switch deal with British Gas?

    Welcome to the forum.

Why do you want to pay about 8% more than paying by Direct Debit?

I have a similar issue when trying to switch tariffs through Switch Together (formerly Big Community Switch).

Switch Together sent me an email on the 27th of January saying that British Gas had won their auction. British Gas was supposed to contact me within 10 days, but I heard nothing. I contacted them, and they can’t find the Switch Together tariff on their system, although they can find older ones. They’ve requested copies of the emails and say the matter will be looked at by their specialist team. I’m waiting to hear back.

In the meantime, I’ve also arranged a switch to the Cheap Energy Club Collective Feb27 tariff.

By the way, I am an existing British Gas customer.
