keep us updated as to progress

There’s a few of us existing British Gas customers who seem to have their application to switch to the Collective tariff declined

I guess I'm a control freak or just cannot be bothered with the numerous phone calls you need to make when something goes wrong and I need a refund.

I managed to get through to British Gas in the end and the customer service advisor said that all there tariffs have a Pay on Receipt of Bill option but Energy Club collective deal is an online only option. He said my best option was sign up for the direct debit then cancel and request the Pay on Receipt of Bill. I've got a few minutes to decide if should risk trying this option 😕

Have heard nothing back today but the transfer in progress has disappeared from the cheap energy club & it shows my current tariff so it looks like it has been rejected again.

    further update

I’ve spoken (to a very helpful real person) customer advisor on the 0330 808 3880 number

Explained that I was wanting to take up the MSE Collective Tariff but had been declined twice at application

She explained that BG have no control over the terms that the energy club attach to these special tariffs and that they are very popular and can quickly be all taken up as available numbers are limited

She couldn’t tell me why my application was declined even though MSE email says contact your supplier if there are problems

So really I’m no clearer to knowing why I haven’t been accepted to switch tariff

I am already on an Exclusive 12 month fix Feb 27 which is the best BG tariff for me in my area at present but The Collective tariff would have been a slightly lower unit and SC for both gas and electric

Have any existing BG customers had more luck in taking up the Collective ?

I contacted BG and the advisor said that although all their taffifs have a Pay on Receipt of Bills option that because this is an online tariff only that there was nothing he could do at this stage. He said that the best option was to set-up the tariff with direct debit and then ask to switch to Pay on Receipt of Bills or cancel the direct debit after the set-up. It sounded a bit risky but I've set up on DD and I will see if I can change it later.

I contacted BG online chat and was told they will contact the designated unit who will contact me by email to advise why I was refused. Timescale for reply 14 working days. No reply yet from cheap energy club email.

For info. (in case it helps anyone else)

I was with BG for electric(!) and Octopus for Gas.

Switched both Gas and Electris to the Collective Feb27 on Feb 7th.

I failed to spot the email from BG only mentioned "Electricity only" although the cheapenergyclub showed I

    was switching both.

Used the app to chat to a person (I hope). I asked why no emails mentioned gas being changed.

Was told I was still with Octopus and advised to go to "http://www.britishgas.co.uk/new-energy/sales"

I asked would I get the Collective Feb27 tariff and was told 'Yes' - not sure I believe that.

I have done as advised and selected the cheapest fixed tariff they listed - not as cheap as the collective one.

    I will see what happens.

UPDATE - did as was suggested by BG Chat. Had to sign up to gas on a different tariff

    (Fixed Tariff Feb27 v5).

Then tried chat to get switched to the Collective Feb27 tariff. Was told they couldn't do it and to contact the Money Saving Expert team.
