I was declined a new CA too and don’t think I indicated I’d only be using it for savings. I think the problem (for me at least) could be that I had a Chase account previously and completely closed it - apparently they either don’t want or don’t have the function to welcome people back? Strange business choice all the same.

Do any app based banks allow previous customers back? I don't think Chase are alone in that.

Monzo let me back (at least the first time…..)

As well as Monzo, Starling let people back as well to my knowledge.

Starling & reopening closed accounts - I guess either their website must be out of date or my account must have been an anomaly in that case, as I was able to open a new account with them relatively recently, after having closed an account with them in the past. Weird that their website would say that when (at least some) previous customers are able to open a new account with them, though.
There was also a post here from someone else recently, which reported that Starling opened a new personal account for them when they'd previously had one.

Chase Current Account Declines
I've had the same issue, I got in touch with them and raised an appeal, they have upheld my appeal and said I'm free to apply again but would need to reinstall the app and try applying again.
The reason my application was rejected was that the app is very picky about photos of ID documents, you have to get the photo crystal clear and with very good lighting, if the lighting's bad the application automatically rejects your application and you have to contact them to raise an appeal to get them to unblock your ability to apply for accounts. In my case it kept thinking my passport was a photo of a photo.
I've been stuck in a bit of a loop for the last couple of weeks, I've had goodness knows how many appeals, all successful, but their application rejects me because it doesn't like my photo of my passport.
If you do go down the appeal route, bear in mind one of the first things they'll ask is if you've checked your credit reports after being declined, if you haven't they refuse to let you raise the appeal so make sure you say "I've checked my credit reports with the 3 main credit reference agencies and there's nothing amiss" otherwise you'd have to call them back.

Chase Declines
That's a bit off to be declined because of your passport photo failing. Am sure that other bank apps I've used have some kind of fail procedure, so that you re upload your photo. It's been a while since that happened to me, and can't remember which app(s). Most recent was a moving side to side photo, but was told I was moving too quickly/slowly on my phone until I got it right. (That may not have been an app, but online application where I had to use phone too).3 -
Chase is an odd one, if it fails to verify the passport it doesn't simply say something along the lines of "your passport couldn't be verified, please try again", instead it is automatically rejected and you have to phone them to get them to remove the block and go again. It'd be alright if it was June but now we're in mid-October it's much harder to get the light perfect for my passport.

Monmouthshire regular saver 9
Opened on October 2nd but had puzzling issues funding. Each time I sent £250 from my bank it bounced back to me - same was happening with OHs Monmouth 9 from his bank account. I assumed that these would be "ghost accounts" - existing but also not existing so I would not be able to fund them.
I then had the bright idea of doing a test payment and sending an internal transfer of £1 odd from the Monmouth easy access. This was before the weekend and I assumed that also had not worked as the money stayed in the easy access and hadn't moved across.
Yesterday I checked again and the transfer had occurred but in its own good time - the £1 odd was sat in the regular saver 9. I then added funds to the easy access which did not show until mid morning today. Then again I transferred across an amount to make the regular saver 9 up to the max £250.
OH didnt have an easy access as he is still newish to Monmouthshire so he yesterday opened an Access bonus account and funded it with £251.
Again late this morning the app updated so he could then transfer £250 to his regular saver 9
Hopefully these wont bounce back into their easy access/ access bonus. In a few days I can get up standing orders to fund the easy access/access bonus and then do a manual transfer each month
OK a bit of work for a 5% account but so far I have nothing maturing in October 2027 - everything I have maturing this month October 2026 - Principality Christmas, Yorkshire Christmas, Hanley smart save, West Bromwich Winter Ready - none have replacement accounts. Newcastle monument has become a branch saver but I wont get to a branch until early 2027. At least Monmouthshire regular saver 9 will be one account maturing in October 2027.
