Annoyingly there is no obvious way to avoid enclosing a cheque. Ideal would be electronic transfer from opening

Leeds. I just wrote on the form that I would be sending funds by electronic transfer.

Do you have to change your nominated account from NatWest/RBS first? Or are you able to make deposits from eg. Halifax or Santander whilst retaining NatWest/RBS as your nominated account? The regular saver T&Cs specify that the first deposit has to come from the nominated account, but a CS rep has just told me that all deposits have to come from the nominated account.

Melton RS6 maturity - will post form in pre paid envelope withdrawing all funds to nominated account(no RS account available at the moment). Strange they do not request to include passbook. I will then have only the Adcock RS @6.5% which runs to September 2027.

Not for me sadly, that's one BS I have never had any dealings with due to high minimum balance. It's not one I would have expected a top rate from, although perhaps there was something I'd missed if most here are eligible.

It might be that they are no longer doing passbooks since their transition to the new online system, but it is difficult to know since no RS have been available for opening since then.

Is This definitely allowed by them? Obviously should be as otherwise it penalises people with no chequebook

From their "Open your savings account by post"
Step 3
Choose how to fund your account
You can include one of the following with your application form:
- Cheque - from a UK account held in your name and made payable to you
- Transfer from another account with Leeds Building Society - enter details on the application form or wait until we open the account. Once it's open, you'll have 30 days to add the minimum balance to the account, or it'll be closed. You can do this by either of the following:
- Electronic transfer from another bank account
- Pay in cash at your local branch - please don’t send cash through the post

For the last 4 months I have paid from an account (NatWest) that is not my Nominated bank acount with no problems (and have also received the fraud squad block and interrogation)

Leeds Branch & Post regular saver.
This has a very badly worded product info sheet with a few things to watch out for. Even though it has a maturity date set at 1st November 2027, it imposes a maximum sum in the account of £3000. There is a penalty:- "If you exceed the maximum balance, the interest rate applied to the whole balance will reduce. The rate will match the variable interest rate of our Access Saver or a similar access account at the time". Currently 1.45%
With the extended maturity date well beyond 12 months, it would be possible to reach £3500 in the account if confused by this statement:-"What would the estimated balance be after 12 months based on 24 regular monthly deposits of £250? answer £3,089.38
24 payments?
Clearly not proof read at all.

As I recall Leeds used to have very good regular saver rates at one time but nothing competitive enough for me in the past 10 years. I do still have a tenner in an easy access account though.
