Maybe that's because they didn't want to throw good time after bad by posting about it on here. I didn't post that Chat couldn't close my account (it struggles to understand 'please close account number one two three four five six seven eight'! Instead, it just told me how to close it myself. I've tried it one more time tonight and the same thing happened.

When you know you're reading this thread too much....
I'd done a little bit of housekeeping and closed a couple of dormant Everyday Savers, including the new one set up last month when opening the 8% RS.
So I've just "renewed" last month's RS, and opened another new 8% RS, with its own new Everyday Saver to keep open.
Just on the off chance that in 12 months time it's beneficial (which I doubt it will be!)

You need to speak to a real person, the chat bot couldn’t close mine either. So I just kept saying that their answer didn’t help until it directed me to a real person.

Halifax 8% RS
After opening one, I did some housekeeping, and closed inadvertently the latest Everyday Saver that goes with the RS.
If I don't renew it - has anyone had experience in what happens at maturity in this scenario (feedback from the old 5.5% RS/ES should also be relevant) ??
Thanks in advance!

Up to now it has been the case that the RS would mature into an Everyday Saver with the same account number and the maturity balance. What happens in the future is anyone's guess.

slightly off topic: Cahoot Simple Saver now 4.52% AER. A good feeder account, despite not having an app. Upgrading an existing Simple Saver takes seconds.

That’s really odd, as those who were successful were not able to close their BOS RS themselves but needed to ask CS to do it for them, whilst you could do it yourself. Sorry to hear you are still unable to get the 8% one. I suppose you could try setting up another BOS profile and then apply as a new customer, though whether this would be successful I don’t know.

I always close the Everyday Saver straight away when opening a new Regular Saver. This allows a 13th payment into the old RS and the 1st payment into the new RS in the same month.
