BoS -success!I posted what worked for me, but no guarantees of course.
I closed my existing 5.5% Tue morning but couldn't open the 8% one. CS said it may not be possible until original maturity date however to check again when 5.5% one fell off my profile.
It was still showing under my accounts until around 1am this morning but once it disappeared I was able to open and fund the 8% with no problem. 😀
EDIT: I emptied the 5.5% one before I closed it. Interest was paid into my c/a within the hour.

When I last applied online, that required Mon BS to send out a signature form with prepaid envelope followed by a passbook. If that process is still the same, archaic as it is, I can understand the app or branch requirement as it keeps costs down.
The Apple version of the app will run on an operating system released in 2019, Android presumably similar, so running it is less onerous than the major players in terms of how modern a phone/tablet needs to be. Accounts can be loaded added to online banking once open for those who prefer that, and presumably the app deleted and reinstalled several times to enable sharing of a device for the purposes of getting accounts open once or twice a year for those who have no interest in tablets/smartphones at all.

Monmouthshire BS nominated account:
I don't know if anyone else has had this experience but I changed my nominated account in online banking and then tried to close my Regular Saver Issue 8 and get the funds paid into it via the app, it told me I needed to set up a nominated account.
It did however let me submit the closure instruction in online banking and let me withdraw straight to the nominated account from there so it seems the app and online banking don't marry up straight away.
Just thought I'd mention for others to bear in mind.
Scottish BS RS:
Just thought I'd mention it for those who haven't seen but they appear to've launched a new online portal, which requires them to send a code in the post to make it fully operational. The old online banking is to stop working at some point in August. I haven't seen any formal communication about it elsewhere so if anyone plans to withdraw from the NLA Scottish BS RS next month and later I'd get the ball rolling on that sooner rather than later.

BOS - success
Thanks. How did you empty the BoS 5.5% saver?
In online banking on the BoS site, it does not seem to have an option to transfer out the funds to my current account.

I did it on the app. Payments tab then from MS to C/A.

Go to pay and transfer and select your BoS regular saver in the, 'from' box.

Is this on the app or website? I can access the website but not the app currently.
If you mean the website, well in the From box, the account doesn't appear!

It works the same in the app and browser. In the browser you click on, "change this" and you'll see a list of accounts. If it isn't there you might need to contact customer services.

So you empty it to zero then close it?

This is what I had been trying but it's not visible in the From list [many other accounts are].
I've just tried the BoS app too and similar issue occurs
