Halifax T's&C's
Regular Saver
Save monthly for a year, in an account in just your name
Having Regular Saver
• Plan to save between £25 and £250 a month
• Save by bank transfer or standing order. You can pay in more than once a month, as long as you don’t save more
than £250. Make sure we get your first payment within 28 days of account opening. After this we need to get your
monthly payments by 25th of the month
• If you choose to save by standing order, you can change the amount at any time
• You don’t have to pay in every month – but because you can’t save more than £250 a month, you’ll limit the amount
you can save over a year as you can't carry over any unused amounts to the following months0 -
Further to Applying for Halifax RS as a new customer online …
Just had a slightly frustrating phone conversation with Halifax CS about the above. I made it clear that although I am an existing customer, I was inquiring on behalf of Mrs Bobblehat who has never had any accounts with the LBG whatsoever. After the CS agent followed my route through the online application process (Windows 10 desktop PC), and he then agreed that it appeared that a new customer using a PC (not an App) should be able to apply, he eventually found something in the T&C's that said they can't!
He put it down to the future rebranding (elimination!) of the Halifax trading name and said Mrs Bobblehat ought to be able to apply for the Lloyds RS instead! He would not admit to the glaring omission of information on the HX website that would have stopped people wasting their time following the application process and getting into an endless loop with no explanation as to why! But I suppose CS are trained to admit nothing 😀
Of course, CS Agents have been known to give out the wrong information ocassionally! YMMV.
So, we'll see if Mrs Bobblehat is at all inclined to apply for the Lloyds RS as a new customer, or if I will have to dodge an object hurled at me for my suggestion 😀.

The customer service agent is simply wrong.

Page 33, there is no mention of requiring a current account to open a Halifax regular saver.

I agree … but at no stage did he say Mrs Bobblehat would need a CA to open the RS! He just said you can't open the RS as a new customer (despite the website saying you can)!
I believe he could be wrong and he either misinterpreted the section he read out (sorry can't remember the exact detail) or I was just being fobbed-off as I was taking up too much of his time!

Again, I agree, but it seemed fruitless to continue to moan to that particular Agent, especially if he was interpretting part of the T&C's wrongly!!
I'll try again if Mrs Bobblehat wishes to continue applying for the Halifax RS, and may even try to follow the suggestion on the website of applying by phone or branch if it seems like it could be the path of least resistance 😀
Any progress or useful info to other Forumites will be posted later, if the mystery is not solved beforehand.

Well I must say that I am very envious of everyone getting in on these 8% deals. I'm half tempted to load up until late March when I really need to wipe out my savings entirely. I have precisely zero LBG RS right now, so maybe it is worth it.

The terms and conditions are irrelevant.
Halifax are closing and have decided to not allow new customers to open accounts any more. That clearly overrides terms of individual products saying they're available to new customers.
