I agree … but at no stage did he say Mrs Bobblehat would need a CA to open the RS! He just said you can't open the RS as a new customer (despite the website saying you can)!

I believe he could be wrong and he either misinterpreted the section he read out (sorry can't remember the exact detail) or I was just being fobbed-off as I was taking up too much of his time!

Again, I agree, but it seemed fruitless to continue to moan to that particular Agent, especially if he was interpretting part of the T&C's wrongly!!

I'll try again if Mrs Bobblehat wishes to continue applying for the Halifax RS, and may even try to follow the suggestion on the website of applying by phone or branch if it seems like it could be the path of least resistance 😀

Any progress or useful info to other Forumites will be posted later, if the mystery is not solved beforehand.

Well I must say that I am very envious of everyone getting in on these 8% deals. I'm half tempted to load up until late March when I really need to wipe out my savings entirely. I have precisely zero LBG RS right now, so maybe it is worth it.

The terms and conditions are irrelevant.

Halifax are closing and have decided to not allow new customers to open accounts any more. That clearly overrides terms of individual products saying they're available to new customers.

Not to mention she cannot open a Lloyds RS as a new customer, unless she also wishes to open a current account and incur a hard credit search. Halifax is the only one of the three that doesn't require a current account.

I've been trying to catch up on the last couple of days' threads but I swear it seems like every time I get to the bottom of a page another one gets added with new posts. Anyway I caught wind of you being able to ditch Santander's 5% R.S for their new 8% one. Am I right in thinking that this can be done by renewing the 5% one then then merely opening the 8% one? Is there a nice shiny 'renew' button the allows you to do this?

If the product is not available to new customers due to a bank-wide policy of not accepting applications from new customers then the T&C's and/or marketing materials for the product shouldn't be saying the account can be opened by new customers.

Personally it looks more like a glitch to me, and some patience until Halifax sort out their problem would be a good way to go.

Renewing (or not) Bank of Scotland Monthly Saver 

I've held a BoS Monthly Saver for years now, and have never been able to 'renew' or 'refresh'. Instead, I've had to wait a full year until after each MS was opened, and only then have I been able to open a new one.

I know some people have had success with renewing BoS MS, but not me.

It used to be the case that you could have a Club Monthly and a lower interest rate paying Monthly at the same time. This is not the case now.

Not with Santander. Close the old one by using the chatbot Sandi but empty the account to zero first. The account will close in a couple of days (closing interst will be sent to the account you specify when asking for closure). Once the old one is closed you can apply online for the new one.
