This should be OK. She has a current account which entitles her to open the 8% RS. It doesn't matter if the account is sole or joint.

Bank Blocks on New RS payments

I had this very thing earlier this week. Set up a new payment to the new Bucks RS — passed COP, etc — and my bank blocked it, saying it was suspicious activity. I had to call and go through the sixth degree to get it sent through. While I was on the phone, I asked if this would occur for every single new payment set up for payments going to various destinations in my name. They confirmed that that would be the case. A right palaver.

She should be able to confirm within seconds whether she can have one - she just needs to log in and see whether she can apply. Don't see why she couldn't have one herself, too, though the terms are a bit opaque.

If the application fails, if I were her, I would open a fee-free Everyday and try again.

Please report back what she finds.

Just thought I'd pop onto Dudley BS at the exact moment they are doing maintenance but hopefully this wont delay the applications for the new saver as its outside office hours.

There is also an interest rate change on the 24th and it lists 2 versions of their regular savers but it seems not the ones we have been applying for

"We’re carrying out a maintenance update on our eSavings portal on 24 June 2026 between 5:30pm and 9:00pm".

Dudley - sent forms via email this morning but heard nothing yet

Santander - old regular savers still visible so maybe Thursday or even Friday.

Bucks - got my details this morning so I've funded and added my account number to the website. I am not going to hassle them unless the payments have not been added by Friday afternoon

Very much a waiting game for things to progress at their own speed.

As for trying to get a saver to mature each month its very much like herding cats - I am thinking ahead now to a lean spell in July and August 2027 - if I hold my nerve for a few days than Santander would mature in July 2027 and then there is the potential of another Dudley regular saver next week.

NatWest blocked my payment and whilst on the phone to their fraud people, I sent another payment to Bucks. I told CS who said yes, that will also be blocked. She then saw the 2nd payment and allowed both through (after 6th degree etc).

With regards to Dudley BS, I can't seem to see any evidence of their new Loyalty RS on their website and it appears to have disappeared from moneyfacts.

For the time being I'll mark the old one as NLA on p1 of this thread and leave it at that. If they decided to launch a new version in the future I'll add it at that point.

Bank Blocks on New RS payments

So it seems NatWest want us to get the okay with their fraud team while sending payments to a RS in our own name. Absurd. If it happens again, I'll just try another bank. I wonder if this new (for me, at least) militant approach is AI led (computer literally says no, regardless of whether it's a sure-fire yes or not!)…

I've never had problems with Natwest in the past, I'll see if Buckinghamshire causes a problem when I send my first payment. Never had problems with Nationwide either. Cooperative on the other hand, held my payments up several times, so I've stopped using them to distribute funds.

What other banks have people had problems with, and which others generally work ok?
