The API tells me the tariffs changed today without a name change, presumably elec VAT change taking effect.

Yep, 5 percent VAT just came off my ending April 2027 fix, 22p unit rate and 51p s/c the result - given the state of the energy market, I am almost happy with that. In April the only way I would escape a minor fiscal shock if low s/c tariffs are available or I stump up, meantime, for plug-in solar or get real solar/battery fitted under the Warm Homes Local Grant, funding in my postcode available next year but no idea where I am on the waiting list (first come basis as more applicants than money). As I am high D epc it means I can't do any other upgrades until there is clarity on that.

My existing gas fixed price tariff with Octopus ends tomorrow.

I'm not sure that going for another fixed tariff (with an exit fee) is a good idea at the moment, as I'd expect gas prices to drop over the next 12 months once the Iran "excursion" ends.

    That's your call.

I'd note though that most people use most of their gas during the two winter quarters, and energy prices are widely expected to rise by another ~20% in January.

Good point about the winter peak and upcoming Jan rise; maybe focusing on that does make sense.
    I'll have a re-think.
