Does the quote function just link to the quoted post, rather than copying the text?
If so, then quoting for posterity wouldn't work if the original poster blanks or deletes their post and all the quotes of it follow suit.
I have tested this and the text quoted at the time of replying is preserved if the quoted author later edits their post.
So if I claim 1+1=3, you correct me, and I edit my post, yours will still make sense.

Quoting myself from esewhere:
I've just tried cutting and pasting details from an older comp into a new one, which is how I post most of my comps, and have found the formatting has gone all to pot. I'm now struggling figuring out how to correct it. It seems like whenever MSE make changes to the forum they **** it up. Sorry, but if this is the 'new norm' I may just stop posting comps!
EDIT: It's just taken twenty minutes to post two comps. Normally it would take a couple!
EDIT 2: I was posting from someone else's post, and it seems to have been more of an issue with the formatting they'd used, but I'm still having some issues cutting & pasting from my own posts.
The issue seems to be sporadic. I've played around a bit and have found some previous posts don't cut & paste correctly. You get something like this:

Check how they are on the comp page

Good luck!!T&COpen to UK residents aged 18+ onlyOne entry per person!Others, you get some formatting as it was and other bits messed up. I'm even getting it occasionally when cutting and pasting comp details from other sites.

I don’t know what others think, but I’m finding some threads just look horrible with the new quoting now. This is on a phone. I’m abandoning reading a lot of posts now because the formatting is just a mess as people try different ways to present what they’re trying to quote. In some cases it’s as bad, if not worse, than someone making a long post without paragraphs.
From my point of view things are a lot worse now, but maybe it’s just me.

I posted earlier worrying about searching for URLs
The good news is that search finds URLs behind rich links
The bad news is that search can not find URLs behind "linkys" and behind "buttons"

Hmm. That sounds promising.
If you (or any other kind Comper) would like to create a detailed post with what works and doesn't work (and why it's important) I'll be sure to point it out to our provider, and see if there's anything they can improve.
(Or I can do that when the dust settles from the Rich changeover - but Compers are better at explaining what's important and why).Maybe better posted on The Future of Competitions Time.
Competitions Time is due to get a big focus on it soon, so we have their ear on some (limited) Comps improvements where possible.Join the MSE Forum

What was the reason the old editor wasn't updated, as a fully working old editor would clearly be better than this new one?
PS I'm not going to fart asre around trying to reduce the quote.

What was the reason the old editor wasn't updated
It's explained in the first post of this thread?

If you're asking why our provider made the decision not to maintain the old editor…
It’s worth pointing out that our forum doesn’t use all the formats and abilities that the platform is capable of. Some because we can’t yet until we’ve made a few more updates. Some because we don’t think it would be appropriate for our forum.Examples include Smart Embeds of documents (including Google docs, sheets, calendars, and many support for many other providers), and the ability to have many different format of discussion - including a new Threaded version similar to Reddit style.
I’m guessing this is why our provider created a new editor from the ground-up rather than updating or maintaining the old one

Is there please a way to ask them to re-code so that when pasting a diary entry, the formatting doesn't double space between lines?

MSE_Stephen: "We first tried moving to a new editor in April 2023, but rolled it back because the experience wasn’t good enough."
It still isn't.
MSE_Stephen: "Many members think [the old editor's] fine but don't hear the regular complaints we receive."
It seems you had the choice to either annoy fewer people by keeping it the same until a better version became available, or far more people by changing it to a worse version.
