Just checked, and yes - my notification links do have the TransientKey link format at first, then become the #Comment format after clicking one of them. They always seem to work though (except for the rare times when the linked post has been deleted).

    Two things: -

I mentioned on one of the feedback threads that if I copy some text from Wordpad that contains an email address and paste it into an existing post, it adds a gap as shown below. Is this being attended to?

    dpo@europarkingservices .com

I can see that quoting gives the name of the originator of the post being quoted and it pastes it as a block that cannot be edited. I can also see in the Rich Text tutorial thread that you can do selective quoting BUT how do you do a selective quote and keep the name of the poster from which you are copying?

    Hi

Yes the space in email has been reported.

I can see that quoting gives the name of the originator of the post being quoted and it pastes it as a block that cannot be edited. I can also see in the Rich Text tutorial thread that you can do selective quoting BUT how do you do a selective quote and keep the name of the poster from which you are copying?

Well, a habit I'm getting into, as I did in this post is -

When you're reading a post and you decide you want to respond to a specific part:

    1. Copy the text you'd like to quote.
    2. Hit the Quote button (Which will scroll you down to the editor and add the automatic quote)
    3. Wherever you want to put your partial quote, type ">" then SPACE then paste in the quote.

So now you've got both a full quote an a partial quote.

I'm pleased to hear that the gap when posting usernames like @@MSE_ Stephe n has been reported.

As above I often get an extra @ and a space between the last two letters.

This mostly happens on my android phone.

On both my phone and desktop I find the drop down listing of usernames is slow and random. Sometimes it doesn't appear at all and so typed username isn't in bold so presumably not active.

@maman even on my laptop the list of names isn't exactly speedy, but at least it lets me select a name thus it appears as a bold link.

    Hi everyone

Our forum provider is having real difficulty reproducing this issue:

New line issue. get multiple characters (Android)

If anyone else has this issue, please contribute to the thread -

At this point, any additional details your members can provide would be extremely helpful (for example: exact steps before the characters repeat, whether they are typing or pasting, and any other device/browser info).

We’re having a hard time gathering concrete evidence to hand this over to our developers, so the more specifics we can collect from affected users, the better positioned we’ll be to move this into a deeper technical investigation.

If you see anyone on the forum mentioning this issue, please point them to the discussion. 🙂

Are you really saying to put a partial quote credited to the original author, we would need to put a double quote - the full quote and then the part-quote?

    That really seems crazy.

Especially how the full quotes don't expand correctly so it will not be obvious to readers that the partial quote is from the full quote.

@MSE_Stephen , is there any likelihood that the issue I posted on your Rich Editor Feedback page will be resolved ("Quotes - can't see multiple ones", the first post on page 2 of the thread), please? This is still only showing as "Active".

It's had 10 upvotes so clearly others agree. As I've mentioned before, I'm finding it impossible to follow a full history of matters being discussed as the multiple quotes are not now shown in a discussion, only a link to the previous one. It is intolerable. It is important as information will be lost, how on earth are we supposed to scroll through many pages of posts in order to find previous, previous, previous etc, quotes? I primarily follow the Top Regular Savers Discussion Thread, which is a very busy thread. I honestly despair.

That's no good, it posts the whole quote and then the bits I want to reply to. I just want to be able to show readers that a partial quote is coming from a particular poster. It used to work, by quoting it all and deleting what you didn't want but you cannot do that as the quote is a picture not editable text. Is that progress? Not in my view.

    Hi @10_66
To answer, for you and others who've asked as similar question:

Reports generally fall into two categories: bugs and feature requests.

    • Bug: our forum provider agrees something isn’t working as it should. It goes into their bug backlog, so we expect it will be fixed - but we don’t know when as their may be more important bugs that take priority.
    • Feature request: our forum provider believes it’s working as designed, just not in the way members would prefer. These may be changed in future if enough customers (i.e., forum clients like us, not individual members) ask for it and it’s feasible.

The issue you mention is a Feature Request. As a large customer, we can (and do) advocate for what our members want. We highlighted this specific feedback in a meeting with them last week.

Complete speculation on my part: It's possible the new quote behaviour is tied to upcoming features. For example, there’s a nested thread format that can be enabled on a per-board basis (see screenshot below). In that setup, a reply could potentially be treated as a “child” of the post it quotes (so replies can be grouped under the right parent post). If threads can be moved between “flat” and “nested” boards, it makes sense for quotes to be links to specific posts behind the scenes, so the system can map those parent/child relationships.

Again - Total speculation! But just to say that there may be very good reasons for new formats being chosen, with trade-offs being weighed up, rather than it being done thoughtlessly.
