Is it just me or is it now no longer possible just to paste (Ctrl-V) anything?

…Ctrl-V seems to work ok for me.

Must be just me then. I copied one of your lines and it won't paste here. I can paste it elsewhere, notepad etc, just not here. I can copy from elsewhere but not paste here. Right click menu etc is no better. It seems even the convoluted options for quoting are a closed door to me
There has to be a reason for such a fundamental problem but it's beyond me thus far

You can't copy/paste something you are quoting such as above quote box. Or even edit anything
But going back to you original post, you can copy & paste.
Is it just me or is it now no longer possible just to paste (Ctrl-V) anything?

+1 to the "this update is pants" brigade … it really is appalling!
Well done MSE - you've found a great way to significantly reduce your user interaction metrics. 🙄 (I can't see people sticking around so much if they have to endure this going forward).

Yes, @Section62 (I couldn't paste that) seems to have no problem either
I'm not using quote at all. Just entering text from scratch using "Leave a Comment". Grrrr

I HATE IT - IT IS BARELY USABLE
On Competitions Time, MANY MANY threads are created by copying a previous iteration of a competition. With the previous editor, the links (including "linkys") and formatting were maintained, and all you had to do was edit the question (if there was one).
With this editor there is a choice of:
a) The default is pasting as a quotation - the formatting is changed and horrible, and a URL automatically becomes a rich link, when a full URL is essential for searching. You simply can not make the post look good and user friendly.
b) The only alternative is to "paste as plain text" and lose all formatting and any "linky" thus it is only fractionally better than creating a post entirely from scratch.
PLEASE CAN WE COPY+PASTE MAINTAINING FORMATTING & LINKS WITH NO QUOTATION

One of the few things I have found that I like is the "Button Linky":
…. but again you can not copy and paste it.
I might welcome the tables section if I ever get time to try it

Hi everyone,
Just to give some context for the reasons we have changed the editor -
The old editor
We’ve been using the legacy ‘WYSIWYG’ editor for years. It hasn’t had meaningful updates in a long time, and it’s become increasingly buggy and fragile, especially on newer browsers and devices. Many members think it's fine but don't hear the regular complaints we receive - that it's not working on X device, or version of Android/iOS - That words disappear, @mentioning a user is impossible, and many, many other issues.
Why we have to switch
We first tried moving to a new editor in April 2023, but rolled it back because the experience wasn’t good enough.
Since then we’ve intentionally delayed another attempt for as long as we could. But we’re now at the point where the old editor isn’t properly supported and keeping it running is getting harder.
Many fixes and improvements members have asked for are actually available from our forum provider and have been for some time, but they only work with the newer editor. Staying on the old one blocks those changes and increases the risk of more breakages.
Quotations
We hear you on quotations - it was the biggest issue last time and we expected it would be again.
We’ve raised this strongly with our forum provider, but the current quoting behaviour is tied to the new editor and is the version they’ve chosen.
Please keep sharing specific examples of what’s not working for you - we’ll continue feeding them back and pushing for improvements.
Thanks for bearing with us.
