Just in case this helps anyone else solve the mystery.
I am not 100% sure but think this refers to pet insurance for our two cats sold by DBI in the 1990's, later taken over by Allianz.
Policy cancelled in 2010 when the second cat died so no longer relevant for me.
Think PWC are just mailing all names still on their records - whether active or not - to make sure they have covered everyone that could possibly have an interest.
They weren't created until 2004 so can't be anything to do with policies sold in 1990s

Allianz was the underwriter for the Dog Breeders Insurance before they subsequently took over the company

Also the beneficiary of one of these letters on Saturday. Just got round to looking at it and found it relates to work I had done with regard to dry rot in April 2017. The cover was arranged by Specialist Building Guarantees. The person who carried out the work is a friend so i'll get in touch with him as well in case that throws anything up.
Interestingly the policy number ties up but the postcode on the letter is not for my address but the rest is accurate.
  • Like others, I received this letter and thanks to comments left on this site I discovered that it was insurance for a conservatory we had built in May 2017.  Thank goodness we never needed to make a claim as it is likely this insurance company went belly up shortly afterwards.
  • I received a letter from PWC and believe it relates to Conveyancing Insurance relating to our purchase of a property.  The sellers were required by our solicitor to pay for this insurance, when we bought the property in June 2017.  This is the only mention I can find re Elite Insurance in my papers.  The policy protects any people who own the property, and any mortgage lenders or tenants who have an interest in the Property forever.  I will be seeking legal advice.
  • Just received a letter too but don’t know understand what it means at all ! 😳
Can anyone explain in simple terms for this confused pensioner 🙏 ??

The insurance company has gone bust, the firm appointed to deal with it going bust has written to everyone that they are aware had a policy with the firm to ask if they have a claim against the company. There are two types of claim you may have:

    1) You had an unexpired policy (eg you bought a 10 year policy from them and still have 2 years left to run) then you have a claim for the loss of the remaining cover

    2) You have made a claim against your policy and the claim is not yet finalised to your satisfaction

The company stopped selling insurance in 2017 so the only people likely to be able to have a claim under 1 would be someone who had long term insurance which is likely to be a warranty rather than the other types of insurance they sold. As most people have said, their link to Elite was a warranty on double glazing or similar.

Having received a letter out of the blue after reading comments on here I found we had a 10year policy with Elite ( via a Consumer Protection Association Policy). This was a 10 year policy for a conservatory. Was concerned whether the letter from pwc was genuine but it is.

I too have received a letter, in looking up the policy number in my emails I realised it was for an insurance backed workmanship warranty for solar panels fitted in 2015. I am not sure how long the warranty would have been for and whether it was still valid at 2017. I will check with the company that fitted the panels.
