Elite Insurance / PwC letter re: Administration
I've received a letter today from PwC who are administrators for a company called Elite Insurance that went into administration in 2019. That seems legit and I have verified on FSCS website.
The letter suggests I had a policy with them (quoting a policy number) and asks if I have a claim.
I have no recollection of using them and cannot find reference to them in my email under the company name or policy number.
I'm guessing they provided policies that have were used by other companies (e.g. GAP insurance, white goods warranties). I doubt I have a financial claim but I would like to know what the policy was just incase it was covering something important (e.g. a indemnity for a house purchase search).
Any ideas how I might find out what the policy was?
Thanks
Iain

I, too, have received such a letter today.
On searching on Google, the website of Armour Insurance came up with the following info: ( Sorry I can’t post link as I am a newbie to this forum):“AVIVA INSURANCE COMPANY OF CANADA
Insuring Canadians for over 100 years, Aviva Insurance Company of Canada provides a broad range of personal and business insurance products and services to policyholders through a network of independent insurance brokers.
ELITE INSURANCE COMPANY (AVIVA ELITE)
Canada's largest insurer of leisure and lifestyle products and services, Elite Insurance Company offers coverage for specialty personal insurance products including recreational vehicles and mobile homes, holiday and park model trailers, horses, hobby farms, sailboats, power boats and antique classic and custom cars.”
It doesn’t shed much light for me - but maybe for you. I am going to speak to a broker through whom I happen to have just bought an Aviva policy. Due to the recent date, it won’t impact that policy but she maybe able to give guidance on what policy maybe referred to.
If I glean further useful information I will post again.

Armour are broadly irrelevant, their address was just being used in the interim whilst the administrators (PWC) do what they need to do. Armour bought Elite (as a company) when they went into run off (ie stopped selling policies).
Elite were a Gibraltar based insurer, they lost permission to write new business in 2017 and finally collapsed in 2019. Therefore any policy you had with them would have before August 2017.
They wrote a wide range of classes of insurance, in the UK it was mostly ATE, Motor, Warranty and Pet. They also did delegated underwriting authority so their name may have only appeared in small sub text somewhere and wouldnt necessarily be the headline brand or underwriter identified.
With the law of limitations being 6 years and policies generally expiring by mid 2024 at the latest then most people will not have a claim anymore, those that do will generally be major events for it to have taken over 6 years and still not be settled but administrators have to reach out to people to make sure. Probably the biggest risks would be those who had Motor with them and was involved in an RTA they were at fault for that injured a minor given they have until their 21st birthday to claim against you.1 -
Further to my earlier post, I have asked my broker & she knows nothing about Elite.
On the 3rd side of the letter, under heading:
“ What should I do now”
4th bullet,
you can register your details for further communication about the matter by completing a registration form via the quoted URL.
I have registered my details.
Like you, I don’t know what policy this relates to notwithstanding the policy reference number quoted in the letter.
I have tried to contact the FSCS in the past on the ‘phone on another matter but couldn’t get through to a human - just menus & then the line goes dead.1 -
Were you using the same broker in 2017 and before? The last policy they wrote was July 2017, they were barred from selling anything after that.Marmalade101 said:Further to my earlier post, I have asked my broker & she knows nothing about Elite.

A decent broker should know who the capacity providers were for MGAs (aka cover holders) but they may have a policy listed under the name of the MGA not Elite. Given its been 8.5 years since they last sold a policy your basic advisor at a broker may no longer remember that they were the capacity provider.
The policy reference may be Elite's reference for the contract with the MGA and not unique to you. Many of our clients only capture the binding agreement in their main system and not the individual policies the MGA has written.0 -
I too have received today for my 2 sons.. really confused and cannot think of any policies they have. I was wondering whether some kind of scam. Will follow this thread for more info.IainC_2 said:Hello

Hi, I received one of these letters today. Having searched for my policy number, I found that this was an insurance backed guarantee provided when I purchased new double glazing in 2014. Hope this helps someone.3
