Well done Narco on biting the bullet. It's tough getting rid of the past but it does free up space for the future.I only reposted the thing about Motivation following Action because I found it so incredibly helpful, and it appears to resonated with at least a couple of other people, which is gratifying.I will admit not being Green when it comes to cleaning. I tried all the green alternatives, bicarb, lemon juice, vinegar etc etc and franky found all of them either woefully ineffective or incredibly hard work with poor or limited results. I use St@rdr0ps which I have to buy online because it's not sold anywhere I can find it in the southwest, and I swear by it. For the oven I use an evil chemical that I get from L@keland which does an amazing job. I use as little of both of those as I can. I hate to be the one to say this, but while putting bicarb and vinegar down drains looks dramatic and seems green and worthwhile, according to everything I've read it doesn't actually achieve very much. Soda crystals down the drain followed by boiling water will achieve far more good and soda crystals are pretty greenish.I haven't been posting because I haven't been Flying during the latter part of the week. I get so over-tired I start snapping at Belovéd and then think I'm being lazy if I stop, so it all gets a bit ridiculous if I carry on. So this week I just stopped after the Foodbank session on Thursday, which was full on.Today we've done some of the tidying that needed to be done, vacuumed the whole house and that'll give us a good basis for the next bit of titivating I need to do to progress things. It's all looking a lot better than it did a few weeks ago so I'm doing something right, but I do wish I had more energy and could just do a bit more every day.I'm slowly, very slowly, working my way through the foodstores, in terms of finding out what I've got and what we can do with it all, and limited shopping to the local Co-0p depsite there being some good offers on things I would have liked at L1dl. I am determined to resist doing a big shop until at least the end of January and probably the end of February. Tonight we're having a homemade pasta thing that I've had in the freezer since August and tomorrow at huge tin of duck confit. I particuarly want to know if that, which I bought in France last May is as good as everyone says it is and I've realised I can't save it for when we have guests because I don't know how good it is.Still haven't found the answer to out of date cashews being okay or not, as everywhere I read online about it described them as nuts, which they're technically not. Still, they taste okay.Better is good enough.Note to self: Motivation follows Action, not the other way around.6

I think I forgot to report that I took a big bag of donations to the CS earlier this week, and I've already started filling another one:
- 2 hanging decorative hearts with sentimental messages on them (commercial products) which are not my thing at all - I've kept them for at least two years, but they have been sitting in a drawer, out of sight, out of mind, for the past 12 months so I know I won't miss them.
- 2 SW recipe books which are duplicates, brought home by DH as "rewards" when he bought 12-week subscriptions
- about 5 plastic beakers from Ikea which I bought years ago for visiting youngsters but never particularly liked as they are not really stable. We now use one each for our toothbrushes, so I have kept one blue and one green for DH and one pink and one purple for me, the spare to be stored in the bathroom cupboard instead of a wall unit in the kitchen, from which they regularly fell out when I tried to get to the glasses.
Last night I stayed up far, far too late, doing a jigsaw, so I have been tired today and haven't achieved a great deal. I managed to declutter a lot of time researching and signing up for new regular savings accounts. Progress has been made on the jigsaw, but it's not finished yet. No photos have been sorted today.
We have used up some cooked chicken and stock in tonight's risotto [nom-nom]. Tomorrow I need to make some goodies for the Old Wives, who are coming to our house on Monday afternoon for coffee/tea and chat. I have a lot of halved plums in the freezer, so a German fruit cake seems like a good idea, and I also need to make something gluten-free - which reminds me that I must check that I have some GF flour.

Cold. Grey. Miserable. And that's just me, don't get me started on the weather 🤣
Joking. Although I am grey, I'm not cold or miserable. 😊
Towels and tea towels have been swished and are now draped on the airer and radiator. I fed the birds and put out the recycling earlier.... once I was dressed.
Definitely in hibernation mode.

Air lock gibble that had been hanging around for days - shoes, gloves, umbrellas, jackets, hats - all sorted and those that are going back are back, shelf screwed in after it fell off the wall (again), donations in a bag to go to the CS, three broken umbrellas in the wheelie bin and everything else put back where it belongs. I've never really attempted to sort the airlock out, just shoved stuff in there for years, but it's now making sense and isn't over-stuffed, which it was. Barbour jacket found and pressed back into service. It really suits Belovéd.Kitchen compost bin emptied into the compost tumbler and both of them given a proper tumble.Pastry defrosted and ironed, plopped into baking tin ready for when the oven's on later for the roasties to go in to accompany the de-tinned duck confit. Lots of duckfat now in the fridge. Shallots chopped and grated cheese defrosted to make into a flan for tomorrow night's supper with some of the creme fraiche that needs using up.Jars of jam counted and noted, jars of sauces, tins, bottle, pulses, soup, fish and veggies counted and noted, sauces counted and noted, tomato things counted and noted .... I'm now ready to pull all of this information together, make a note of the meals the food stash will make and that's a January job coming together nicely. I'm glad I meal-planned last weekend for this week so I don't have to force myself to bring all of the listies together by tomorrow.Better is good enough.Note to self: Motivation follows Action, not the other way around.7

I did a fairly decent clean of the kitchen this morning, including climbing up on the counter top to do the windows.
Have done soooo much laundry and all the ironing for the pile of school stuff. I’m genuinely pooped now.Reduction in daily mortgage interest since October 23 (new mortgage) - £2.84 December 25

Hi all
We have been away for the weekend, spending time with family who we didn't see at Christmas. It was wonderful but the bed wasn't very comfortable and I am now shattered so will probably be in bed soon. I have done a load of washing and put that over the airer and run the hoover around upstairs since we got back.
See everyone on the new thread. Two weeks of January left, lighter nights and better weather are not far away.6
