Morning all xx
Thank you iona and Fayolle xx
I completed today's nyt puzzles in the night as I couldn't get back to sleep after waking at 2am: completed Strands with no hints, completed Wordle in four, and completed Connections with two lives lost. Then snuggled down to rest if not sleep and woke up after eight. Not a problem. Nothing spoiling.
I've made my bed, taken my meds, turned over the calendars, changed Joey's seed and water, updated my Saturdailies list, taken my bp, eaten breakfast, and supped two brews.
I'll shower and get dressed, then get on with my Saturdailies.
Have a good day.

I did want to ask what cleaning products you use?
Im wanting to be more environmentally friendly and sustainable. I was gifted some Purdy and Figg stuff which I’m using at the minute and it’s lovely. But I’m also interested in hand wash, washing up liquid, laundry stuff, general house stuff. What do you guys recommend?Reduction in daily mortgage interest since October 23 (new mortgage) - £2.84 December 25

I bought a Nancy Birtwhistle book and use a lot of her concoctions, which I'm happy with. Initially I bought a starter pack of bicarb, washing soda etc. but now buy in bulk evey 9 months or sotwinklie said:I did want to ask what cleaning products you use?

I’m with you, Eltee, even down to the same book. My main cleaners are combos of white vinegar, bicarb, soda crystals and washing up liquid. I’m not totally on the Green page, but definitely further forward than I was.
And following on from that, today’s flying has been 3 of the Big and Annoying jobs started off my list. Shower grouting cleaned with bicarb and vinegar. It’s slightly better but needs another go. The shower drain has been dosed with soda crystals and hot water. And I decided to see what I could do about cleaning up our old Bath stone fireplace. Well. Whoever knew. A brisk brush with the dustpan brush, and a load of dirt has come off 😳. I only did the top surface, but will break the job down now to a piece a day and see if that improves the look. Feeling quite smug about that. Apart from the fact that it has obviously been so dirty for all these years.

Another week rushes by.
The usual exercise classes done, including the new aqua zumba which was quite hard work. Didn't actually fancy a lake swim today so had a lie-in.
Fairly good progress in the ROD front although some hard emotional decisions to make now I'm accepting that I am retired.
- officially asked to have my status changed to 'retired' on my professional body so that will save a bit of money on renewal at the beginning of next month. I'd already spoken to the insurance company linked to the professional status.
- went through one drawer of the large unit in my study/office/hobby room. I know quite a few of you on here are also teachers so you will probably understand how hard it is to get rid of worksheets, flashcards etc that have taken time and money to produce (albeit many years ago). I binned/recycled a lot and put several packs of English/maths cards and games on local FB. Someone already arranged to collect them (although she is now half an hour late, which is annoying). It was a hard mental decision as it seems a lot of my identify is tied up in being a literacy tutor, even though I've done mainly assessment for the last 10yrs so not used the resources. Anyway I've stopped for a cuppa but aim to tackle a couple more 'compartments' of that particular unit.
- Mr N has been attacking the complete shambles which is our garage; it annoys both of us but is an amalgamation of stuff waiting to go to the tip/charity shop/flower arranging stuff which has been piled up and not to mention the several boxes of china and photo albums from Mum's house.
- First result of the above is that I asked my friend the waterways chaplain if any boaters could use a large kettle (we used when we had the Aga) and a semi-working pressure cooker (the pressure didn't come up to full when I was doing the Christmas pudding, so I bought a new one in the sales). Happily she knew of someone who had recently got a boat and had very little, so that is great for both of us.
- I dismantled the 2 remaining festive flower arrangements (so despite my complaints about the poor quality of flowers, they lasted well). This produced 3 heaps: Christmas decorations such as silver cones etc, foliage which was still ok and rubbish for the brown bin. That prompted 2 further actions:
- I made a small arrangement for the lounge with the foliage, some rosemary from the garden which is flowering and a few of the silver-sprayed holly and ivy leaves as they won't keep till next year.
- I did a total empty and ruthless sort-out of 2 of the drawers in my 4-drawer flower stuff storage. Lots for the bin as it was tatty and/or chewed by a rodent. Now the top drawer is general stuff - marbles, pebbles, glue, plasticine, artificial foliage and bendy sticks; while the 2nd drawer is Christmas stuff - sprays, small baubles, sprayed pine cones etc. I'm really pleased about the result. The bottom drawer is just pine cones anyway and the 3rd is oasis. There are still a number of dismantled dishes and baskets with oasis scattered around the garage so I'll work my way through those tomorrow hopefully.Remember...a layer of dust protects the wood beneath it.
It's tough getting rid of the past but it does free up space for the future.6
