Ah perfect thank you for that. Really helpful. Just wanted to set a date on or after Feb 16th (when they pay me the £100 amazon reward for opening a Santander a/c) before doing another switch so will wait another week or so before applying :-)
For the Lloyds offer the switch has to start (not just be applied for) before the 3rd.

So a switch date of the 16th would not be eligible.

    • Open a qualifying account between the 06 January 2026 and the 03 February 2026. Start your switch from your old bank account using the ‘Current Account Switch Service’ to a Club Lloyds Account, Club Lloyds Platinum Account or a Club Lloyds Silver Account by the 03 February 2026

That's not how I read the T&Cs. You cannot specify any start date for a switch, just a completion date. "Starting" the switch is applying for it.
I disagree!  Starting a switch is starting a switch. And it has to start by the 3rd. That seems unambiguous to me.

I don't think you are interpreting the T&Cs correctly - it is highly unlikely that Lloyds would change their switch processing rules come Feb 03 and force people to choose a switch completion date within 7 working days. I have done countless switches and have never come across any offer which required switch completion within 7 working days.

But those who are trying to delay their switch completion date for as late as possible should probably clarify directly with Lloyds, instead of listening to either one of us  :)

Doesn't really matter who disagrees with who, it's what Lloyds actually mean by "Start your switch.."  that's important.

    Indeed. That would settle it.

I would point out though that there are two date terms used by banks for switches - the 'start' date and the 'completion' date. That's what they're called, start and completion. So if Lloyds say start (not 'apply') by 3rd they very probably mean start by 3rd!

There's no suggestion Lloyds would need to change any rules come 3rd Feb.

All switches take 7 working days.

You can choose when it happens. By choosing completion day (the 7th day) or start date (day 1).

But it always takes 7 working days.

That's what the CASS system does.

I assumed "start" meant "apply by", but I may be wrong.
Definitely worth asking Lloyds, to be in the safe side. Although a customer service employee may not understand the nuances of switch dates, so may not have a clue what you're talking about. Be prepared to be passed around several people before you get an acceptable answer.

I'm waiting for a couple of DDs to pay out on my donor account (I'd usually be ahead of the game, but Christmas rather got in the way). So I need to be careful with timings for the switch. I'm prepared to wait until the DDs have paid out before applying for the switch, and run the risk of Lloyds pulling the offer before 3/2. No big deal if this happens, I'm sure there'll be another offer in a few months.

I am well aware of the general CASS principles. Which include that your actual switch date is not actually guaranteed. Lloyds do offer switch completion dates which are well beyond the 7 working days, and I expect that they will continue to offer this on February 3.

Also, I have had switches which took more than 7 working days, for example at Natwest, where it wasn't even possible to specify a completion date. Or at the COOP.

Anyway, I am not going to continue to respond to your agressive posts.

I am sorry you see my posts as aggressive.

I am still not sure why you are questioning the 7 days. All switches take 7 working days.

But yes Lloyds (and all banks) offer completion days beyond 7 days when you apply for the switch.

You choose the switch completion date - or sometimes just accept what the bank suggests. But the switch doesn't start until 7 days before that. That's how it works. The start date is when the donor bank is told of the switch. Not when you apply for it at the receiving bank.

So yes, many people will have applied for switches that don't happen for some time, maybe weeks ahead.

But that's because the completion date was set then. And the start date was 7 days before that.

I can't see why you are disputing this. But if you're out, so am I.

I was only trying to help, as if my interpretation of Lloyds 'start by 3rd' is correct, your advice today suggesting people apply for switches starting after that would disqualify them.  I am happy to be wrong (if I am) on that interpretation.

The other matter, of querying the 7 days, is, as outlined above, surely unequivocal.

This is heading for an existential debate about what we actually mean by "time".

Just get your switch request in at the earliest you can once you meet the requirements.....

On Jan 9 I opened a new Club Lloyds and requested a switch date of Jan 26.  I received a letter today from Lloyds, dated Jan 9 which states:

"We will shortly be starting your switch...your switch date is Jan 26, we will contact you when the switch has started"

To me, that means the request is not the start.
  • This may be a stupid question but how do I actually do this an an existing customer with a normal current account? I cannot use the switch service if I am already with Lloyds so not sure how I do this?
