AAw, Bless you, that sounds like a stressful week. Sorry to hear about your nice boss 😕 I can't recall from what you said if he was injured in the accident itself. Sounds very stressful indeed, and I dont blame you for wanting some time alone.

I've got one of those cooling towels - you get it wet once and it works through evaporation, stays cold for ages, and not drippy, so lovely to have round your neck.

I remember when I was a kid, my mum (in her 20s) and the elderly neighbour (who was probably in her 40s 😂) used to put their t shirts in the freezer 😂 I'm sure it was very effective, but the sight of them both sat at the table doing a jigsaw in their bras was one that filled me with horror as a kid 😂😂😂

I have an ice maker. I love it :) and it runs pretty much permanently. I also keep several bottles of filtered drinking water in the fridge at all times.

I've taped mylar sheets to my west-facing windows over the last couple of days (my west ones are the biggest problem - one is HUGE and that and one other have aluminium frames that also get hot), and a couple of south-facing ones too. It's making a significant difference. You can buy 6-packs of the blankets on evil Amazon for about £7, and just need some masking tape. I try to cut them so that on opening windows I can pull them over the top and tape on the glass inside. It's not perfect, or neat, but they're not easy to work with if you don't have anyone to help! Other people are taping them with double-sided tape to the glass. But they must be on the outside.

I know I have some greenhouse shading paint somewhere, so I'm going to try that in a couple of places where I can't make the mylar work. ANd I have miles of shade netting so might attempt to fix some over the back of the greenhouse… All things you might be able to try.

You could put a cube in a clip near as you can get to the skin!

Depends on hair and heat and vibes, I've done top bun for cube to cool scalp and dribble on face, mid bun for head and dribble on neck, and low bun for neck and dribble on upper body. I have a lot of hair so with a loose bun I can fit a few cubes in, it is well good 😁

We have some half-filled bottles of water in the freezer, propped up slightly so the water doesn't freeze in the neck, once they are frozen, one is topped up with tap water and chilled in the fridge. We use this water and keep topping up until the ice has significantly melted then it goes back into the freezer and the process continues with the next bottle. We find the water is chilled very quickly so it is easy to keep on top of wants of the four of us.

We enjoy the chilled water as is, with cordial, diluting fruit juice or sparkling.

Bought a nice melon which I shall slice up at some point - thought that would be a nice change from constantly drinking cold water.

And as someone with very short hair and so not bun option I've always gone for dunking my baseball cap in water and then putting it back on my head. You get a similar cooling drippy effect. I started doing this when we'd go walking (alps, dartmoor, etc) and if a clean water source was found I'd dunk my head, then my hat and continue on our way. I also had a large cotton neckerchief/bandana and I'd frequently soak that too and tie it back round my neck or tuck it into my cap so it draped down my neck - both cooling and good to protect from sunburn and bitey bugs. (though frankly the best protection from bitey bugs is my OH as he attracts them all 😎)

fyi - I got a lovely goose feather pillow from Out of Eden for £72 which included free shipping when I included a small extra item. Needed to be £60, after vat and the pillow was actually £59.99 pre vat but the extra item meant I got it for less than just adding the shipping cost. (recommended by a FB friend who has a holiday rental)
