Can I join please? I've recently retired and have now run out of excuses as I will finally have some time to declutter the house. I was interested in other people's comments about mental health as my main reason for wanting to declutter is to have a calm, tranquil home that I can relax in and enjoy. For a long time now it has been quite chaotic and certainly not relaxing to be in. I'm also sick to death of spending so much time looking for things, so I want to streamline and organise my (not unsubstantial number of) belongings.20

Good evening.
Can I join again for 2026? Ill try to post more often. I last posted at the beginning of November with kitten pictures and then life got hectic. Dance shows and competitions, constant bugs and viruses, currently just recovering from flu.
Lots of things still left the house since I last posted but ive not got any numbers.
This year we need a new roof. Desperately! It looks very much like Charlie Buckets right now. Once its done we need the loft reinsulating and to do that we need to empty it! It's jam packed to the top. DH did bring down 2 bin liners of clothes and couple of weeks ago and there was 197 items of clothing just in them, DH says there's probably another 40 bags up there.
My heads still not quite right and my sight is still blurry so I'll be back again tomorrow, hopefully with first numbers.LBM in April 17 - Starting card debt £33554

My DH is kicking the New Year off properly! He’s been sorting through his bits ‘n’ bobs and says he will have a box of things for me to sell. What a great start to the year!Saving 1 animal wont change the world - but it will change the world for that 1 animal

Please can I join in again for 2026?

mehefin, those thoughts about New year honours occurred to me too. I couldn't think of a witty medal acronym perhaps someone else can.
We moved to a larger house three months ago. I have bought and acquired some things to make the place homely, there may be replacements as I come across things more suitable.. A tidy calm space helps my mind to be tidy and calm. As I spent all our money on the last house renovation, this one will be slower and more DIY where we can. The biggest job will be reclaiming the overgrown garden. Probably enough house jobs for several years. So far there has been a partial rewire and replacement double glazed units. Booked in for January is a landscape contractor to clear the front garden, a plumber to move a radiator. February should be shed bases and March new sheds. April should be new bathroom and cloakroom. I am sure there will be plenty of other stuff to keep us busy too.
For me this year is about using what we have, bringing less in and buying second had where we can. I am not going to count as previously I got hung up on the numbers. I will list things out where I have to make some effort to rehome whatever it is. I don't generally sell things but have done so in the past, I don't think we have anything of much value to sell these days. I will keep on top of emails and phone stuff too. There are also a few long standing frogs that I would like to eat this year. I love a list, I have a to do list as long as my arm. I would love to cross things off that.
I look forward to your company and hearing about your journey this year.

Thought I would post a quick reminder about New Years Day superstitions (I did know about the No Laundry on New Year’s Day)
1. No laundry - could cause a loved one to be washed away during the coming year - rather creepy 😟
2. No sweeping, cleaning, wiping etc - see above 😟
3. Wear your best new clothes on New Year’s EVE to welcome the New Year in - it is believed that you will continue to look & feel your best throughout the year. 🙂
4. Don’t eat any chicken - it is believed if chicken is eaten diners will spend the year picking through dirt for their food i.e. bringing poverty on one’s self - another creepy one 😟
5. Noise & light from fireworks coupled with cheering & music is believed to ward off evil spirits. Oddly enough so is hanging a lemon above the door 🤔
6. Open doors & windows just before midnight to let out the old year & leave open until after midnight to let in the new year - I rather like this one 🙂
7. Rather a strange one - avoid crying cats 🤔 thought to be a bad omen so avoiding them is your best bet to a year filled with good luck 🍀
So there you have it - although there does appear to be a whole list of others including first footing, fire festivals, banging the bread, rabbits, underpants colour, eating grapes, leaping off chairs 😬 But my favourite one is giving lucky tokens to your friends & family 😊
So whether you believe or not, I will take this opportunity to wish everyone a

Hoping for some before pics if your 80s living room has any worthwhile 'features'? I've decided I'm fed up of the years beginning 2000s so going back to the 1980s this yearlilian1977 said:I would like to join please. We have a new bathroom going in, a new kitchen ceiling (related to the reason we need a new bathroom!) and originally planned a new living room, but the bathroom but the kibosh on that, so would at least like to make the living room a pleasant place to be (we haven't done anything to it since we moved in 16 years ago and it was a relic from the 80s even then!).
So, plenty of decluttering of worn out candles, unnecessary kitchen bits, unloved toiletries, crafting stuff that 15 year old DS doesn't need any more. I have enough books to easily last 2026, and if I run out it will be off to the Charity Shop rather than buying new.
I already have a pile waiting to go to the charity shop, I should really have done it before Christmas as there are new kids games in there, but just didn't get around to it. I would also like to get the loft bedroom decluttered and usable again by the end of 2026.
Good luck all!
, in my clothes but also maybe some house stuff (not that I've ever fully left dressing like I did in the 80s but I need some new stuff) 22: 3🏅 4⭐ 23: 5🏅 6 ⭐ 24 1🏅 2⭐ 25 🏅 🥈2⭐ Never save something for a special occasion.
