2026 DECLUTTERING CAMPAIGN Mrs SD - our Year of Redistribution

I have been slowly putting two of these at arm's length this year. I find it difficult to fully let them go as I know these two people have good qualities as well as traits that are unhelpful to my own well being plus they have been a big part of my life for 30 years.KajiKita said:
I have decluttered a long standing ‘friendship’ toward the end of this year and I will be looking out for other ‘stones in my shoe’ that might need editing out of my life.KK20 -
Think this is perfect for me. I have so much junk in the house to get rid of. Clothes especially.I’m hoping to get back on with Vinted selling as a first port of call for getting rid of stuff, but we shall see. I usually put it up for a month and if it’s not gone I give to the charity shop, but tbh, it nearly always sells in that time because I do list it cheaply. Most people buy bundles off me.Jumped on the declutter bandwagon early though as we can only book one slot at the tip per month. So did one today to get rid of an old appliance and lots of boxes, some old bits of decking etc.
We only did it today so we can go again in January - so I’m counting it as a 2026 task. Yay us.So I think my goals are:
1. Declutter clothes - Vinted/charity shops.2. Declutter toys/books that are too young for the kids now.3. General declutter of ‘stuff’ as it gathers rather than leave it to ‘pile up’ in those pesky hot spots.I’m sure there are loads more things I want to achieve, but that’s a start.Reduction in daily mortgage interest since October 23 (new mortgage) - £2.84 December 25

That is funny as I have just done the same as you two Kajikita and Oceanspirit. I have stopped contact with two people who weren't really acting as friends to me. Someone from my reiki group said 2025 was the year of the snake and one of the themes of the year is meant to be cutting out toxic influences and "shedding" things and people that no longer serve you.
I got an email from the charity saying they had so many armchairs that they didn't need mine! I was going to call up a local second hand store, but they are family run and not open until Friday so I will call them then. I am steadily making a pile for the charity shop. I will take a photo when it is done.

@Wednesday2000 is there a salvation army branch near you? They sometimes help homeless people get homes and help them with furniture.£71.93/ £180.0016

That is a good idea. Thanks. Will try them Friday first as I would rather give it to a charity.🙂15

I’ve also redownloaded the TOM app to try and keep me motivated. It should in turn help with the decluttering and cleaning in one (I hope).Reduction in daily mortgage interest since October 23 (new mortgage) - £2.84 December 25

joining in for accountability and encouragement / kicks up the posterior as required. 2026 will be a big year for us as we hope to undertake IVF treatment and make a start on renovating Pavlov Towers.
I've dabbled with decluttering over the past 5 years, and whilst I can see progress in certain areas, it has made the parts I've yet to tackle all the more frustrating. I'm done with living in chaos, particularly;- mess that results from not being able to easily put stuff away because our storage options are limited and overflowing
- the mental clutter of a million and one frogs / unclosed loops
- a bajillion DIY jobs that need to be tackled
- rooms of doom that aren't serving any purpose other than being a graveyard of incomplete projects and delayed decision making
- excess itinerary of every day items (particularly toiletries, food, candles, clothes and cleaning products)
I want to make the house easier to manage and enjoy so that I can carve out more time and space for me. Quietening the mental clutter so it is easier to relax and switch off is going to be really important for me this year too.
As well as old junk, I also want to decluttter old ways. I can be very 'all or nothing' but need to get better at embracing the compounding power of consistency. As little as 10 mins a day would equate to more than 5 hours a month of decluttering (wo)man hours which will make a phenomenal amount of difference in our ability to enjoy our home.
I'm making a slow start today on de-crapping the attic (which will need to be completely emptied to allow access for electrical and plumbing work when the bathroom is renovated). I'm trying to be a lot more strategic in packing away Christmas. I saw a tip online about packing your decorations away in a way that facilitates the way you decorate rather than space efficiency, which seems so bloody obvious now I think about it. I always do the tree last, so why do I subject myself to digging through loads of tree decorations to get to the bits I need to add wintery joy in November?! And why do the christmas baking supplies take up valuable kitchen cupboard real estate for 12 months of the year when they serve no use for 11/12 months?! And why am I keeping decorations that I haven't used in years because I have plenty of others that I love?! No more!
Bring on the redistribution and retribution - let battle commence!know thyselfNid wy'n gofyn bywyd moethus...24 -
Helloooooo!
Just doing a last clean and stuff. MrsSD please put me down for 600 items this year.
I have also joined the 26 for 2026 thread. Not got much on there at the moment as I don’t want to overwhelm myself but so far:
Do 26 diary entries a month
Bake 26 things
read 26 biographies
watch 26 documentaries
I think that will be a good start 🥰⭐️⭐️⭐️🥇🥇🥇 2024

Hi,
Please may I join in?I seem to have a decluttering conundrum. I find things in the house to be disposed of in a variety of ways eg dump/charity/recycling etc. I place them in my garage ready to go and at some point they do disappear. However, within days/weeks the damn garage is full again and I do not understand how this happens!😂 I’m not continually buying new but still it fills and still I clear. Strictly speaking I think my house ought to be empty by now. This is something I need to figure out and get a grip on.Mental decluttering appears in a similar way! I store, empty, it returns! I clearly don’t have the correct methods under my belt.I shall attempt to declutter something every week. More if I can. And NOT replace it with another bit of stuff/clothing/book/notebook/art project/worry.I’ll try to check in each week and see how we’re all doing.🙂22 -
For 2026, I need to sort the garage where I have been hoarding predominately china and home decor. It is a double garage and is totally wasted how it is.The house isn’t too terrible really but that is probably because of said dumping in the garage. The attic was boarded during Covid and is fully organised. Only off season clothes and seasonal decorations there.I have deep cleaned and reorganised my small home office this week, bought a new shredder and done a LOT of shredding. This morning I sorted all my magazines and listed 10 I thinned out on Vinted super cheap as a bundle. They sold so will drop at the locker tomorrow so …..
