So 2026 is going to be my reset year.
Started September 2024 with 32000 in debt, cards & loans. By the end of December I will be down to 8995 - gotta add the extra just to get to a figure starting with 8! Hoping to clear the lot by the end of September 2026.
I have a tax bill to pay by the end of Jan and the car MOT at the end of Feb so won't make any serious impact on the figures until March.
I am also planning to lose 20 kg in weight over the same amount of time. I am hoping to make an impact on that a little sooner. Cutting portion size down now in readiness for 2026. I figure I will be in the best mind space if I start now and not mess up too much over Christmas.

Well that all sounds pretty good.
I suggest you put your car in for its MOT just a bit less than a month before it is due to give yourself time to consider options. It will still be dated 12 months after the expiry date. Is there any reason it won't fly through?0 -
That's great going, well done.
Are they all with the original creditors or have any defaulted and Ben sold on?0 -
Wow you've already done amazing!
Just reminded me to check when my service is due.
I also need to lost quite a bit of weight!Debt Free - 4th June 20250 -
No, I wasn't in any arrears, just decided that enough was enough and made an effort, side hustle, increased hours at my employed job. Looking forward to getting the rest off.Rob5342 said:That's great going, well done.

It gets quite a rough trip - rural area etc but I have put back 1000 for it. I also have it serviced at the same time. My plan is to wait for the bill and any leftover can go straight off the card. Basically it stops me freaking out with worry about the cost.fatbelly said:Well that all sounds pretty good.

Because my tax is also put back so fingers crossed I can pay the last card off pretty sharpish - I only have 1625 on that currently. .
I am probably being over cautious but, for me, it's worth it.Sept 24 : £32000 Aug catch up - £11436 Dec 25 - £8975

We could encourage each other if you would like to join me. I have Sarcoidosis of the lungs, I am now running and / or walking 50 miles a week and this has helped a huge amount, I figure if I lose the weight it might help to make its effects minimal. The more I help myself the better it must be - well that is my theory. I have lost a little already but need to make a decent effort._Dolly_Rocker_ said:Wow you've already done amazing!

Ok. The basics still apply. A lot of mot failures are related to lights and tyres, so before the mot, check all bulbs are working including number plate bulbs, and that tyres are undamaged, inflated and ideally 3 mm of tread. It should be a lot cheaper for you to sort those out than pay a garage.
Most posters on the motoring board would gasp at £1000 to get a car serviced and mot'd but I realise we're not on that board.1 -
The term "service" is a pretty lose one with most modern cars, all that needs changing regularly is the oil and oil filter, your plugs will normally last 80,000, you might need to clean or change the air and cabin filter, aside from that, most other stuff is down to visual checks, which any competent home mechanic should be able to do themselves.fatbelly said:Ok. All you really need a garage for is an oil and filter change, and just so this reply is relevant to this board, good luck on the debt busting also..I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards.
