Thanks for continuing to run this challenge @Suffolk_lass and thank you to @enthusiasticsaver too for 2025. As mentioned in the 2025 thread I'd like to do this in 2026 - I'm happy to remain as #21, but not worried if you want to move me up the spreadsheet. I'm going to aim for £1200 for the year, but may need to tweak this goal as hoping to retire in August if all goes to plan.#21 Save £12k in 2025 £25577.35/£200001

Spotted the 2025 version of this thread far too late into the year. Would like to take part this year if possible, with a goal of £5000. Looking at things subjectively this could well be quite a stretch for me all things considered. Like the fact I haven't worked a full week in December, and January isn't looking much better either. That said, if I can stick to at least paying into a RS every month and have the much needed de-clutter I shouldn't be far off and one can only try

Any guidance as to what is classed as saving? i assume income less expenditure. But is interest included in the income? For a monthly savings figure is it as simple as taking total accounts balance at end of month minus the balance at start of the month?1

I include savings interest and gains (or losses) from investments, so I’m basically tallying all account balances each month.Malchester said:Any guidance as to what is classed as saving? i assume income less expenditure. Hi, I think I posted in the 2025 thread that I would like to join again for 2026, but can't remember....so posting here
I'll go for £12,000 again. I'm currently #23 and happy to keep or change that1 -
We all do it our own way, @Malchester. Many post at the beginning of the month by predictable regular savings amounts.Malchester said:Any guidance as to what is classed as saving? i assume income less expenditure. I don't do that. I post at the start of the next month having checked the investments for that month to include the dividends from them. I do include dividends and interest, but not the stock and fund value movements (I do record them but I don't count them for this). Also in my tally is any PB or lottery wins (above a LD), my regular saver and my Tilly Tally total - if you are not familiar with that description it refers to checking your bank account and rounding it down, with the pennies, or pounds going into a savings pot and the name referencing the long ago Forumite that coined it. There are now various apps called this. I paid off about £40,000 of our mortgage by doing a daily check and Tillying down to the nearest £10, after every day's payments. I still do it, though the mortgage is long gone.
I also include any sales of honey (I am retired and a hobby beekeeper) or other products I sell from that hobby (all honey fudge this month)Save £12k in 2025 #2 I saved £14,660.97 of £6000 or 244.35% of my target. The 2026 Save £12k in 2026 thread is here
