Lovely to see you Kazmeister x
Glad you’re being spoilt on your birthday MadamMin x
Sending posivibes for Wren (and you!) for tomorrow, HB xxx
We have spent much of today at another local NT property where the house is decorated for Christmas in 1970s style - great fun and very nostalgic. Rosie and I had a lovely walk across the parkland in the winter sunshine.
I have FUPA clean washing, finished 4 knitted cat keyrings, started shredding some old paperwork, filled the compost bin with shredded paper that will keep the worms warm, and got fish out of the freezer for an easy tea. Tonight I intend to start writing cards. I haven’t got to go anywhere tomorrow so will hope to get a few more jobs crossed off my list.

Obviously out of touch as just lost my post!
Thanks for the welcome back and happy birthday MadamMin.
First job of the day completed was out in the yard cleaning up the huge pile of doggie doodles that DH appeared to have just kicked in to a heap 🤬.Kitchen has been scrubbed to within an inch of its life. Cupboards have been sorted and stuff flung including the dreaded under sink one. I even degreased and scrubbed the decorative bits on top of the cupboards (can’t remember what they’re called). The dining room has had the layer of dust removed from every surface, the bookshelf has been cleaned and sorted as it had become a dumping ground for DH stuff, so he will no doubt be annoyed when he can’t find anything tomorrow. The house deeds, last seen on the bookshelf about 5 years ago didn’t reappear like I keep hoping they will. The table has been cleaned and now has Christmassy tablecloth, mats and a mini Christmas tree. The floor still needs doing tomorrow.
Hallway was swept and given a quick mop to remove most of the plasterers dust/mess but I will do again tomorrow when I do the living rooms.
Think I might turf Doogie out for a final wee and head upstairs early as had less than 5 hours kip last night, thinking about my best friend who lost her mum yesterday morning. She was a lovely lady who I have known for about 40 years and was like another Granny to the kids as they grew up so sad to have lost her.Mortgage, paid off!7 -
I have made great inroads into the admin which, like’most everything else in Villa Valli (and in my life) is under the influence of Parkinson’s Law. Filing, shredding and inning has occurred.
Dessert made for lunch tomorrow… lemon posset which is rapidly becoming a Valli classic (ie I remember the recipe)
Christmas cards received stapled to homemade hanger. Also have record them on spreadsheet, along with some gifts.Don't put it DOWN; put it AWAY"I would like more sisters, that the taking out of one, might not leave such stillness" Emily Dickinson

Wot she said!Valli said:Happy Birthday Madam Mim.
Welcome back Kazmeister.
Good luck for Wren tomorrow Honey_Bear.
A pretty productive day today....oops it is now tomorrow.
- 2 loads washing done in wm, 1 item handwashed and I put my dryrobe through wm on cold as per instructions.
- checked Christmas list
- printed out a couple of the sheets detailing the charity 'presents' we have donated to via the Big Give, put one in the card to be posted later. At least the 2025 template is set up now so I can print the rest later.
- Mr N and I went to posh farm shop/cafe (Ionafan it is even more expensive now but the cakes are still yummy) and got a few presents; it is good for luxury items as we make up a small hamper/basket of treats for DB/SIL and BIL. We may have had coffee and cake while we were there.
- On the way home, Mr N picked up his prescription while I went into the PO for some stamps. Posted card.
- went into the garden armed with silver spray and sprayed teazel, ivy, holly and corkscrew hazel. I've found it is less messy than picking the sprigs and spraying them indoors; the grass gets a silver coat but will grow out in spring.
- walked up the road to deliver a card to a friend and stood chatting for half an hour
- made flower arrangement/wreath/star decoration for the front door
- made flower arrangement for DB and SIL
- finished snowman's scarf, sewed on eyes, nose and mouth. Made him a broom to hold from silver birch twigs. Mr N has a plan to make a mounting as he pointed out to me that our gateposts come to a sort of point at the top.
- weighed out some ingredients ready for the morning as I'm making a cake to take to the village Christmas line dance (Christmas t shirts and cowboy boots!).
- messaged DB with a couple of ideas about the forthcoming weekend which we're spending with him.
- set up payment for next term's drumming lesson. emailed music academy as I've just received notification that the friend's funeral is the same day as the last drum lesson of the term. Hopefully the tutor will have a gap later in the day as I don't want to miss either. Will now have to consult other church flower ladies as I'm sure we would like to decorate the church in honour of G (I have a photo of G and I making an arrangement for another church member's funeral about 10yrs ago) ......however, we weren't due to decorate the church for Christmas until 3 days later.
I've tried to tidy up a bit hence the late night; this afternoon the kitchen was full of buckets of flowers, a box of silver-sprayed foliage, containers, bits of oasis and various snipping tools. Now fairly neatly put together and I swept the kitchen floor. Ditto the lounge, as well as various decorations we're yet to decide a location for, there were bits of wool/needles/knitting everywhere. Now a bit more organised.
Tomorrow is make the cake, aqua aerobics, home via Mr T to get more flowers (and I'm sure there was something else only I can't remember what), make an arrangement for SIL and Mum, ice the cake, maybe put the snowman on the gatepost, go to zumba, home to collect cake and walk to line dance. That will do for a start.Remember...a layer of dust protects the wood beneath it.7 -
Morning all,
My list for today
Do paid stuff
Do uni stuff
Hoover downstairs
Order the last of the festive presents
Take the dog for a long walk
Take DD to her tutor
Update Mr T order as delivery is due tomorrow
Go to store whilst DD is with her tutor and see if gift cards are still usable (we found some gift cards whilst decluttering) I got a nice surprise and the gift cards were usable, so I got some festive goodies.
Take DD to the stables so she can check on and feed her pony
I think that is everything that I need to tackle today. I hope everyone has a lovely Friday.8 -
Morning.
Gonna treat to myself to a bath this morning as it’s just me n Doogie here.
Then it will be dining room floor, living rooms and hallway. Also need to dog walk via the vets as they have only given me 1 flea tablet instead of the usual 3.DH will be home at lunchtime with all his sh!te from the caravan trip so will no doubt undo the tidiness and calm I have created so far.Mortgage, paid off!7 -
Morning all,
I hope it goes ok for Wren ( and you, HB) today.
Not a lot of flying happening here. The carpenter is here, so it seems pointless to try anything downstairs, and getting up the stairs has to be carefully timed. Clean clothes folded, it is so miserable that even yesterday’s washing hung inside is struggling to dry. We went out for dinner last night with ex work colleagues and had a lovely time. Tonight’s dinner is bits and bobs from the freezer - I really need that space, but everything just shuffles itself around to fit, breathing a sigh of relief.
It must be coffee time if anyone cares to join me.7 -
Morning,
Did my parents food shop at Mr A with DD2 yesterday. Very stressful not only with customers in the shop but with DD2 (she had bad time getting the bus over which I'm obviously to blame for). Then having to deal with my ungrateful mother who seems to have forgotten that things in the outside world have changed since she last went shopping herself before lockdown! And also forgetting that DD2 and myself have our own stuff to do (sorry for the moan).
Today I've gone through and debunked my bag and purse.
Rejigged my meal plan again (got some reduced bits on Wednesday on the way to my group).
Unlocked the DW and put a wash in the WM which is now on the airer. Stripped the bed and the bedding is now in the WM.
I've wiped round the kitchen including the hob and door fronts.
I'm now having a coffee while I wait for the job centre to call me.

I no longer have the stupid gin glass that I put in the top of the cupboard last week as I knocked it down when I went to get the baking tin for the shortbread I made after going to the hairdressers which is the accompaniment for the lemon posset. Lunch went down well and the posset particularly. However I cannot find the Christmas card I wrote for my friends, though I did hand over a beautifully-wrapped gift.
Lots of floor sweeping and vacuuming done and despite my not seeing the broken glass in the sink (for the glass hit the worktop before hitting the floor) I have washed up and am unscathed. A Christmas miracle!
