Lloyds took over HBOS in 2009, they've had plenty of time to merge them but they obviously think there is commercial value in having several sets of branding for their products.2 -
The thing you are missing is that they are going to put all the accounts into one app but then make you keep the other apps for some functions.Rob5342 said:
It's quite common to brand identical things differently for marketing purposes. The Citroën C1 and Peugeot 107 are fundamentally the same car for example , just with a different badge and a few minor changes.boingy said:Really odd decision that we still need to keep the separate apps. Either all the accounts are in one place or they aren't.
The reason Halifax and Lloyd's accounts need different apps will be for commercial/marketing reasons rather than technical ones. They are putting time and effort into keeping them separate because they think it benefits them.
For example, in the Halifax app you can view accounts, make payments, freeze cards and view statements for all accounts across the group - Halifax, Lloyds and BOS. You can also use the messaging to seek help for any of the accounts. But for other stuff you have to go to a brand-specific app. So they have "half-merged" the apps. That's why I consider it to be an odd decision.0 -
I don't think they will merge the brands. Both banks target different markets and the Halifax brand is respected and known.2

How many on here realize that the MBNA credit card business was bought by Lloyds in 2017 and runs on the Lloyds systems.I remember when the login proceedure was switched from the MBNA original to the Lloyds one.Its just another Lloyds brand targetting different markets.Off topic but no different to Travis Perkins the builders merchants who also own Wickes and also own Toolstation keeping them as seperate brands while the conversely sale of Buildbase business by the owners to Huw Grays builder's merchants resulted in the Buildbase brand ceasing to exist.0

They can't get rid of the bank of scotland brand they have the best looking debit and credit cards by a country mile0

Maybe dual brand branches will end up meaning more bank closures and save them moneyTheleak250 said:I don't think they will merge the brands. Both banks target different markets and the Halifax brand is respected and known.1 -
I think that’s their idea. what’s the point of having Lloyds and Halifax branch in a walking distance away when a customer can transact in either of these branches.ChirpyChicken said:

Mine said that this change will happen at some point "in the coming months" - not as of now.2 -

That's why I consider it to be an odd decision. It's not just the apps, but also the online web sites.I reckon there's some code that is common to all the brands on the platform (as you listed above), and in future that stuff will work from any of the apps or web sites, and there's other stuff that for now, for technical or security reasons needs to be handled by brand specific code - possibly because it interfaces with external providers such as Visa).I also expect that once the announced co-servicing is working as intended for a reasonable period, integration of the apps will happen, but Lloyds, being mindful of what happened when TSB left their platform, are taking things slowly and step by step.
