LLoyds and Halifax 'co servicing'

Lloyds and Halifax are essentially the same thing just with different branding. The website and app are pretty much identical apart from the branding, and if you compare their products it's difficult to find any differences. They must have some marketing reason for running two near identical brands, probably to exploit the history, brand recognition and loyalty thst goes with each one.jackjones01 said:It makes you wonder they don't just merge all the brands into one.0 -
If that's not a cool, new FinTech bank by mid-2026 I'll be surprised.The_Groat_Counter said:confederated said:
Yes. Do away with the Halifax brand and keep BOS for Scotland and Lloyds for England and Wales. It is pragmatic to keep a separate Scottish identity, like the Royal Bank of Scotland. Makes sense.jackjones01 said:It makes you wonder they don't just merge all the brands into one.
Keep the heritage of all of them fused together into a funky new name for the finance world - La BOSH.3 -
Really odd decision that we still need to keep the separate apps. Either all the accounts are in one place or they aren't.0

It's quite common to brand identical things differently for marketing purposes. The Citroën C1 and Peugeot 107 are fundamentally the same car for example , just with a different badge and a few minor changes.boingy said:Really odd decision that we still need to keep the separate apps. The reason Halifax and Lloyd's accounts need different apps will be for commercial/marketing reasons rather than technical ones. They are putting time and effort into keeping them separate because they think it benefits them.1 -
Could be that banking regs keep them apart - Lloyds have a separate banking licence from that for Halifax/BoS.Rob5342 said:

But yes, Halifax ("Building Society", nationwide branch network) is kept separated from BoS (Bank, Scotland only), presumably for marketing reasons.1 -
These brands will merge . No reason not to0

I can see the Halifax brand being subsumed into Lloyds bank brand over time. Bank of Scotland is a different matter, don't know the ins and outs but they issue bank notes and have brand recognition in Scotland. Also they're the oldest bank in Scotland.so I can't see it being retired and rebranded as Lloyds

Yeah, RBS got enough backlash for daring to change its colour from blue to purple. Apparently that was anti-Scottish. Can't imagine RBS or BOS will ever go completely.1

Also in the email it says "If your circumstances mean this change might affect who can see certain accounts or impact your financial independence, we're here to support you. ", which suggests to me that one partner in a joint account at Lloyds may be able to see the other partner's Halifax accounts, or vice versa, or it may be about POA or third party mandates.Eco Miser
