Two Weeks Beach Holiday With Only WizzAir Cabin Bag

If you had booked the holiday with, let say, TUI, and it was £1050 for two weeks with the luggage, would you have given it a second thought?MikeyPGT said:The all-inclusive holiday is costing in total £890 for two weeks. WizzAir are looking at an extra £160+ for hold luggage
No pile on from me, I just dont want to spend two weeks with next to nothing to wear and having to wash things, sometimes "saving money" isnt always the best thing.1 -
I have travelled with hand baggage only and it was fine. That was a standard ticket allowing the small wheely case plus laptop / personal bag.MikeyPGT said:I'm flying solo so no family to stress about and will be as casually dressed on holiday as I am at home. The all-inclusive holiday is costing in total £890 for two weeks. WizzAir are looking at an extra £160+ for hold luggage which is quite a big add on to me.
I am not sure I could do the same if on a Ticket only allowing the "under the seat Infront very small bag" which was all that was included last time we flew with a budget airline (I have never flown WizzAir so not sure what their standard allowance permits).
From what you describe and the price point, I'd give it a go. I might be more hesitant if I had others travelling with me who'd moan if it went wrong.
I do agree that holiday pricing can seem illogical. My wife and I are currently away and 2 weeks cost £2.1k. Flight out at 11:30 am instead of 6 am would have cost another £150. Flight home on Saturday just after lunch would have cost another £500 compared to flying home Friday evening. Those changes were, IMO, disproportionate against the total holiday cost.
I can only imagine that the price structure is to catch your attention with a headline marketing email £900 for the fortnight and, once you are invested, the upsell is successful enough times to give a profit for the airline.
(I was actually surprised that on our flight out there were only a dozen or so cases on the carousel that had hold luggage, even though that was included anyway with our ticket.)2 -
Personally, I'd be happy to go for a week's beach holiday with only the included carry on luggage. We do it frequently for city breaks as well.
I find wearing the bulkiest clothes on the flight helps. I don't find washing a few bits that much of a hardship. I'd wash my swimwear anyway so it's hardly a big deal. I usually put it in the bottom of the shower and then rinse off in the wash hand basin.
If you travel frequently, you can buy tooth powder and solid shampoos and deodorant that help with the liquid allowance (hopefully this will soon be changed for all airports).
If you do need to buy extra/leave behind clothes while you're there, it doesn't have to be wasteful. I have a Turkish friend, where we go on holiday, that helps run a charity for street animals. They're glad of any spare clothes for their charity shop.2 -
Is the cabin bag one that can go in the overhead bin or only under the seat in front?
We frequently travel with rucksacks, for a two week beach trip, if they can go in the overhead lockers. I take some travel wash and do some every few days and hang on the balcony, or find a laundrette if necessary. An hour or so out of our holiday is no big deal.
So, yes it's perfectly doable.2 -
It's slightly bigger than the Ryanair make-up bag size but not quite as generous as EasyJet. Works out at 40x30x20cm. I'm going to give it a trial run at the weekend - thinking 4-5 shirts, 1-2 trousers, 3-4 shorts, socks, pants, beach towel, sliders ... Have got a couple of rollable vacuum bags to help space saving.thegreenone said:Is the cabin bag one that can go in the overhead bin or only under the seat in front?

In your original post, you said that you begrudge paying for hold luggage.MikeyPGT said:

You're talking here about the free under-seat carry-on bag of 40x30x20.
I can't see that anyone else has picked up on that and noted that there is a middle option of a cabin bag of 55x40x23.
Have you considered the option of a cabin bag which (depending on the internal dimensions of the bag and getting as close to the maximum permitted as possible) should have just over double the capacity of a carry-on bag?3 -

The OP is going away for 2 weeks.
We go to Europe for 2 weeks and long haul for 3-4 weeks.Mostly we do a week at a time, and hand luggage only. Our carry-on bags are backpacks.Last time I went away for two weeks (solo, like the OP) it was a business trip rather than a beach holiday. I packed for one week and did laundry (the hotel had a laundrette) at the halfway mark.If I was going for more weeks, I'd have done more laundry. TheShape — MoneySavingExpert Forum - thanks for that suggestion. I originally read it that the Priority bag was an alternative rather than an addition ... That said WizzAir seem to enjoy playing their customers - on the website it would be an additional £78, on the app £60!Debt Free Wannabe by 1 December 2027

My Husband is looking forward to just the two of us travelling and going hand luggage only! I'm not as convinced, but his packing skills are phenomenal so it probably won't be an issue.
When we go away we will use a laundrette once during and at the end of our holiday so we have no piles of washing to come home too - I love this, and usually get an hour or two in peace at the pool. We used to leave washing for a serviced wash at a laundrette for UK breaks, but these don't seem to be as easy to find as they wereMake £2023 in 2023 (#36) £3479.30/£2023

We take less on long haul than a lot of people do for 2 weeks EU.QrizB said:Pollycat said:

I have a friend who holidays in Greece/Turkey for 2 weeks and takes the full Jet2 allowance of 22kg.
Our recent long haul (26 days), our luggage was 17.5 kg and 17.8 kg.
And it does depend on what sort of holiday you take.
The OP is doing the sensible thing (which is what I'd have done) ie doing a trial pack.
