Pack for one week, not two, and wash mid-trip. Quick-dry synthetics beat cotton every time; they wash and dry overnight. Take a small travel detergent sachet and a bit of paracord for a drying line in the room.

I've stayed in the same hotel before and dried a shirt on the back of a chair on the balcony so I know that works.  Undies can do at least 4 days if you wear them backwards the second day then turn them inside out the third day and flip them back to front again on the fourth ...

We usually have hold luggage, and most of it never gets used.

We went to Malta for two weeks and because of the circumstances we could only get cabin luggage.

We managed much better than I expected. We did some washing, and might have struggled if it had been really cold.

We packed stuff down well, used the vacuum bags and left out some stuff we would normally take - like my laptop.

I wouldn't have many reservations about trying it again, if the deal was right.

We traveled with Ryanair this summer and they had the same luggage size as Wizz. I found a bag for life that perfectly matched the size and took that. It wasn’t closed at the top but it was ok. You can always put a jumper or shirt around your waist if you are worried about getting on the plane and pop it back in your bag once you are onboard. I found toiletries to be the hardest because I needed quite a bit of different things but you might be able to pack lighter than me.

The only slight concern I have is around my sun stuff - I like Calypso once-a-day but not sure of its availability/price in Bulgaria.  Hoping that Luton is allowing more than 100ml bottles in hand luggage next year as decanting would be a pain!

Do you and the family need the extra stress of cramming everything for a two week holiday into a cabin bag? I get you want to save money but there comes a point when it might border on miserly.  You could also save money by walking to the airport and only drinking tap water for two weeks but - it’s a holiday.  Go with the mind set to enjoy and not worry.

Only you know if you can manage it

As a woman I wouldn't want to do it and I wouldn't want my OH to do it on a holiday with me.

I'd rather take hold luggage to ensure I can get my preferred sun protection with me.
I wouldn't rely on getting a specific brand abroad.

I find it less stressful to book a holiday with the companies that includes hold luggage in the package price

I'm a woman who.almost exclusively travels hand luggage only. I only take the absolute essentials in terms of toiletries - facial suncream (which doubles as moisturiser), lip balm, deodorant, shampoo. I buy body suncream (if needed) when I'm there - I find brands like Garnier and Nivea are fairly widely available in Europe at least. I also sometimes don't take shampoo, and just use what the hotel has - but my hair is short, undyed, and unfussy.

I don't really take makeup unless it's travelling for work, but then it's a powder base, lipstick and mascara.

Clothes-wise I have some dresses which pack up incredibly small, plus 1 pair of trousers (I recommend Sweaty Betty explorers) plus a few t-shirts/vests, and a thin jacket. I'll wear jeans, and a jumper/sweatshirt on the plane. One pair of sandals (suitable for sightseeing) one pair slim trainers, flip flops if there's a beach / pool - max of two swimsuits if there is. I'll wash vests / t-shirts as needed.

I don't really do hold luggage as I've had experiences of my case not making it, and I hate waiting by baggage belts. My OH is also a hand luggage only person.

And this is the thing, people will moan and say "I'm not paying that for a bag!" but the fact remains for decades the companies bundled the cost of the bags into the headline price anyway so you were paying it regardless.

Agree with Westin, there becomes a point where its not money saving and its just ridiculous. Maybe he could go further and just drink his own spit rather than water, that would save even more....

I prefer to travel with hand luggage only because it's less hassle, not more - no waiting at baggage collection, no lugging of big bags to and from the airport, up and down stairs, no deciding what to split between hand and hold baggage in case it goes missing, (no appearance of my undies on the carousel when my hold bag was ripped open by rough handling!)

I pop my lightweight rucksack on my back and off I go!

And you would do that for a two week beach holiday?
