As I said 'I wouldn't want to do it'.Emmia said:
I'm a woman who.almost exclusively travels hand luggage only. I only take the absolute essentials in terms of toiletries - facial suncream (which doubles as moisturiser), lip balm, deodorant, shampoo. I buy body suncream (if needed) when I'm there - I find brands like Garnier and Nivea are fairly widely available in Europe at least. I also sometimes don't take shampoo, and just use what the hotel has - but my hair is short, undyed, and unfussy.Pollycat said:Only you know if you can manage it
As a woman I wouldn't want to do it and I wouldn't want my OH to do it on a holiday with me.
I'd rather take hold luggage to ensure I can get my preferred sun protection with me.
I wouldn't rely on getting a specific brand abroad.
I find it less stressful to book a holiday with the companies that includes hold luggage in the package price
Like TUI and Jet2
I don't really take makeup unless it's travelling for work, but then it's a powder base, lipstick and mascara.
Clothes-wise I have some dresses which pack up incredibly small, plus 1 pair of trousers (I recommend Sweaty Betty explorers) plus a few t-shirts/vests, and a thin jacket. I'll wear jeans, and a jumper/sweatshirt on the plane. One pair of sandals (suitable for sightseeing) one pair slim trainers, flip flops if there's a beach / pool - max of two swimsuits if there is. I'll wash vests / t-shirts as needed.
I don't really do hold luggage as I've had experiences of my case not making it, and I hate waiting by baggage belts. My OH is also a hand luggage only person.
But if I had to, I'm sure I could.
I have sensitive skin and need to take suncream that I know suits me.
And I know that it won't be available out of the UK.
I really don't go on holiday to rinse clothes out.
Never suffered lost hold luggage but I pack each case exactly half and half so it wouldn't be that much of a disaster.

'lugging of big bags'?kimwp said:I prefer to travel with hand luggage only because it's less hassle, not more - no waiting at baggage collection, no lugging of big bags to and from the airport, up and down stairs, no deciding what to split between hand and hold baggage in case it goes missing, (no appearance of my undies on the carousel when my hold bag was ripped open by rough handling!)
I pop my lightweight rucksack on my back and off I go!
Most have at least 2 wheels and often 4.
Lugging of big bags is from the room, to the lift, to the transfer collection point, to check-in which is almost always on the ground floor.
Collect your easily wheeled case from the carousel and off home.
Never, ever had to lug hold cases up stairs.
I really don't care if my undies are strewn on the carousel for all the world to see.
But, then again, my hold bags are robust enough to cope with being handled into the hold and out again.0 -

You seem to be a bit upset about the suggestion that big bags would have to be lugged up stairs and the fact that I once put a sports bag in the hold. Not everyone stays in hotels with lifts and collection points. Some people hire cars and stay in self catering local flats and many other variations. And I count pulling a suitcase around as lugging.Pollycat said:

I've found queing for yet another stamp in my passport is more than long enough for bags to be ready and waiting to be collected. It was 45 minutes last week.

I absolutely agree, a backpack is much easier for steps, uneven surfaces etc. and suitcase wheels can have a mind of their own.kimwp said:

I normally don't need to rinse anything out - two weeks on the beach / warm climate should be doable on hand luggage as you don't need the heavier jumpers etc.Pollycat said:

That's why I commented on that.0 -
No concern really, Im just bemused that people will happily spend hundreds, if not thousands of pounds on a holiday, and then baulk at paying £100 tops to be able to have a full suitcase of clothing, without the need to have to wear the same pair of pants for 2 weeks, have no shoes, spend the fortnight washing in the apartment, and likely spending money anyway in resort at inflated prices on the stuff you could have brought from home at cheaper cost.kimwp said:
