NST OCTOBER 2025 Optimism, Opportunities and Overcoming Obstacles

Hello everyone
Work today, so NSD # 2 was had - no chance to go to any other shops!I had prepped the veg for tonight's meal before work, and the shepherd's pie base was ready made from the freezer, as we were expecting a firm to come after work to quote to renew the rendering on the upper front of the house. They texted to say they couldn't make it - obviously don't want the job, but why not just say so from the outset instead of making an appointment and cancelling last minute
This is the second firm that have done this. Obviously there is plenty of work on much bigger houses round here so they don't need to bother with my little one. Very annoying as I am perfectly happy to pay the going rate. Anyway, enough moaning - I suppose we will get someone willing to do it at some point, and it isn't an emergency. Not much else done apart from the usual run of washing up / cleaning kitchen, and folding and putting away clean laundry from the airer. It has got as far as the airing cupboard anyway

Like the sound of your plan @apple_muncher & great that Pip would like to be an elf.
Go @beanielou, will you beat your other high score?
My neck is very sore today, but I think I slept all or nearly the whole night without waking up 🎉
Work was mostly ok, think I need to get a hand squashy toy thing, to stop the verbal tourettes, that keep spilling out of my mouth! Told the teacher I need one for each hand & each foot too, to stop saying things out loud! 🤣
The craft fayre went really well. Took in the most ever, thanks to discovering why people have a lucky squares competition on their stall. Don't know why I didn't realise sooner, but it made all the difference! Winner of the beige gonk has been contacted.
Grateful for doing well at the sale, it being nearly the holidays, sleeping better last night

NSD # 3 for me today. Work again, so no opportunity to spend
Did a load of washing first thing, which mostly dried on the line outside. Now finishing off on the airer indoors.Sausages, mash, steamed cabbage and onion gravy for dinner.I have the quinces that I picked a couple of days ago (and OH prepped today while I was at work) in the steamer to extract the juice. This will be bottled for now and put in the fridge when cold, and I will make it into quince jelly at the weekend when I have time. I have also chucked in some unappetising looking apples.Grateful for a busy day at work, which makes the time pass quicker.6 -
Dawn we had sausages for tea too. Potatoes and veg for me, beans instead of veg for DH.I’m on NSD 2! I’m really pleased as the other days were minimal spends of food things mostly so the bank balance is good compared to last month.Staff day tomorrow with workshops to attend and then team lunch. I’ll bring my lunch as most will most in our team.I’m off then until Thursday. We’ll be painting the outside of our back windows. Will be glad to get that done during the sunny weather.Still delighted every time I go into our new shower room which was done last month.Always motivated by you all. Thanks for having me here7

Today won't be a NSD, as the chimney sweep is coming this afternoon (I will be at work, but OH will be here). OH has always done it before, but he is not so young, and has a bad back, so I booked a local firm to do it this time.A company are also supposed to be coming to look at the damaged render on the upper front of our house, so I have written a list of questions to ask (assuming they turn up) in case they come while I am still at work. OH will have his own questions, and he knows far more about these things than I do.I juiced the quinces and sad apples last night (I have a steam juicer, saves all the mess of jelly bags etc). I now have 4 bottles of juice in the fridge and will make quince and apple jelly over the weekend. I must ask DD2 if she has any spare jam jars, as I am running low. She probably has a load of mine anyway
Last work day for this week. Hopefully I will get chance to sort out my unit (I have retired from my 'proper' line of work, but get a small sales space within the shop in exchange for working a couple of days a week) as a couple of large items sold yesterday and it looks chaotic.OH has muttered about making fishcakes for dinner. Not my favourite, but I am happy to have one with some veg or whatever.Lots to do this weekend. I also want to wash, iron and put away my summer dresses (assuming it is good drying weather, it is supposed to be - I think) and get out the winter things that I had put away in one of the trunks upstairs.5 -
Loving my shower this morning. I have a set routine, using the cold water on my ankles and knees as it warms up and finishing by using warm water on my neck and shoulders to ease any stiffness and tension (the hot water has also been helping with back pain). I've had two nights of patchy sleep with lots of reading and have been dozing during the day. If I have a burst of energy and get something done, I feel the need to go back to the couch until I recover.
The small food order I did earlier in the week had 5 oos items, 4 of which were sandwich makings. Especially miffed about the corned beef as I had taken some of the toast bread out to defrost. Anyway 2 more small orders done today with a variety of fruit, soft sandwich fillings and stuff I can have on crackers (oatcakes actually). Still not feeling able to go out. I have been drinking mostly water and noticed some improvements but have today included some 'treats'. I have a mental list of meals to make (including celery soup) but not found time or energy to chop veg.
Mrs Builder came today so kitchen and shower are clean and tidy. I stopped her doing more because I was tired, hadn't managed to join in much. She did pick up the larger bits of rubbish in the front room (I had removed a sack and a small bag of rubbish, these were the things that either missed or fell out of the bags). Mrs Builder would not let me pay her for last week (I said she shouldn't come in case I had COVID).
Unfortunately she will not be here for the next 4 weeks (I think work is picking up at her employers and they've asked her back temporarily and she is still working at the shop). I need to get my act together and do small bits each day to keep things in order. There are parts of the house where I can see there isn't much to do (maybe I'll do a bingo with tasks in each square). Possibly I could do some 'quick result' tasks like booking the bulk waste collection - booking, then cancelling and rearranging appointments took too much time in the last fortnight and left me no appetite for further wrangling bureaucracy. Time for a new list.
Grateful for not hurting (as long as I don't make any sudden movements), a lovely shower and Mrs Builder.

I’m still on nsd #5 as the last two days I’ve needed to grab something for dinner. Low spends so it’s all ok. I have a weekend with nothing planned! First time in over a month. I’m so looking forward to catching up on life. I need to try to load some stuff on v1nted.Mortgage free wannabee 2022 #826

Ive just written a long post & lost it!
Two more NSDs.
A very weepy day today. Managed to get through work. In assembly each week, all teachers choose a star of the week. My teacher sausage was picking 2, 1 was a pupil, the other was me! A member of staff has never been picked before! Had to stand up front in front of the whole school + @30 parents. Didn't take in what was said about me, couldn't make eye contact with anyone either in case I started crying! Lots of tears when I got home too. When I'm at work, I don't have time to think about my late son, but now I'm going to have lots of time & I'm scared that it's all going to swoop in & overwhelm me. I've been numb for so long, but now the chinks are starting to appear.
Grateful for my nomination, compliments from a pupil, my supportive colleagues & my lovely gifts & card full of kind wordsUse it up, wear it out
