Right here we are on the last day of the old year and I am in a bit of a dilemma. It does not directly have anything to do with MF but as you may remember me and DH decided to see what would happen if I came off the pill back in June. Well nothing did and we have not really talked about it since. Now I am 1 day late with my period which does not usually happen and I feel kind of happy about it but also a bit apprehensive. I want to do the test and have bought the kit but wondered if I should do it together with DH or not. I mentioned that I was 1 day late this morning but there was no reaction. He does suffer from ManFlu so that could be a factor. We talk really well about most things but I just don't know if he would want to be there waiting for the blue line to show or if I should just do the test and if negative leave it at that.

I know it is a really personal questions but what would you do?

  • Hi TG

Sorry, I don't really feel in a position to advise but it sounds like you are going to do the test anyway. If you are going to do it today then try and drop another hint about being late and see what he says, what about saying you are thinking about doing the test or buying one (even though you already have) and what does he think? Would he like to be there with you when you do it?

How do you feel about it, do you think that whatever the outcome you would like to reflect on it before sharing?

Sorry again TG, just ignore my waffling but I'm sending virtual support to you

Thanks Aboutmetoo it makes sense your waffle I think you are right I might need sometime to reflect on the news myself. I have got as far as getting the test out of the packet and I think I shall do it today eventhough I know it is best first thing in the morning.

  • Good luck with the test.

Personally my wife did the test without telling me. It never bothered me in the slightest, the news that she was pregnant was far bigger than any worry about whether I sat and waited for a blue line to appear.

However I can see that it is a personal decision. You know your OH better than anyone so you'll have a good idea as to whether he needs to be involved.

Well TG I've had 8 pregnancies and with all of them I have done the test by myself. With the first one I did the test waited for the result and then called my OH upstairs to share the news. Despite the fact that we had been trying, he was stunned beyound belief!

Good luck with the result; I hope it is what you are expecting.

I did the test at lunchtime and told husband when he returned from work. He was very shocked but pleased as he had been broody for years. Anyway if you hubbie knows you were trying he will be pleased if the result comes back positive. Fingers crossed you get the news you want from the test for the coming year. Keep us posted of course.

Did the test on my own it was negative and then my period came on a few hours later so guess we will just have to keep trying.

Had dinner just the two of us before walking up to our friends house. Not that many people there but still nice to see them. We had eaten so did not try any of the chilli, curry etc people had brought. Funny there were 3 slow cookers on the go.

Going out for lunch in a minute as it is the inlaws wedding anniversary. It is such a painfull day to have to do that and I am as usual hungover. Hope you all got safely into the new year.

    Hi TG,

Sorry for your news. Happy New Year though and I hope 2009 brings you what you wish for.

Are you going to be putting your MBing profits on your signature this year? I know you have been doing extremely well on this and am always encouraged to keep on going with it.

I haven't managed to catch up with any other threads yet so don't know if you have mentioned your plans on the mortgage this year - what you are hoping to clear etc.?

Hope lunch goes ok. We too are off to M-i-Ls house and are running very late.

Yes you are right it is time I sat down to make targets for next year for my mortgage and also sorted out my MB and started recording it again.

    House expenses for 2009
New front door is needed it is so drafty but my friend can fit it so I don't think that will be a lot. Nothing else needs doing and I can't see anything that I shall fancy having done.

    Holidays:
Need my holiday but they are usually paid for by airmiles, any cashback from Quicdo etc, Amazon sales or ebay sales.

I only have 20 days leave so need to use them carefully. Already have 3 golf breaks in the UK booked at a cost of about £700 or a bit more. That takes away 4 days leave. I will need a week in Denmark in the Summer but Airmiles should pay for that. We have spending money in Denmark and my investments pays out a small amount in April which should cover it if we don't go shopping mad.

So we are now left with 11 days call it 10. My ideal would be to go to South Africa in December (if I dont get pregnant) as would give us nearly 4 weeks down there. BIL has 2 holiday homes plus we can stay with him. I think the flights will be about £700 each.

If we don't do that I think we will go to Spain for 1 week and play golf, will cost about £1500 plus lots of spending money.

    Morgage & Loan
I paid off £500 on the bathroom loan yesterday so we start the year with

    £3500 loan

    £14,000 mortgage.

If I continue to pay off £1000 a month on the mortgage plus any interest added so about £50 extra maybe less now that the rate has dropped. That means the balance will be down to £2000 on the 01.01.10 that is a bit scary isn't it.

As for the bathroom loan I shall have that cleared in no time but maybe I should set some kind of tagets. I need to pay off just under £300 to clear it in 1 year. We are not paying any interest on it as it is offset against some money my Mum wanted into £ instead of Kroner. (Bad choice really).

So there you have it a bit of a reflection on what I estimate we will spend in the new year. All of this could ofcourse change if DH's company has a hard time or if I find that I am expecting.
