Ours is part of our benefits scheme so we can choose the level of coverage upto 4X Salary for Life Insurance and upto 60% of Salary for the Health Insurance. We have a total sum in £'s that we can spend on our benefits and can add any uncliam amounts to our salary or use part of salary to increase benefits. I like the scheme but a lot of people in the company don't.

Right quotes for life assurance and I am still not sure what to do please help if you can:

    Current policy,
    • term assured mortgage cover with critical illness.
    • Cover: decreases in line with mortage so would be about £40k cover now.
    • Term left 10 years,
    • Guaranteed rates
    • Cost £40 per month Legal and General
    Option 1:
    • Level term life assurance incl terminal illness but NOT critical illness
    • Cover £100,000
    • Term 25
    • Cost £34.81 p/m (if DH gives up smoking for 1 year it drops to £19.26)
    Option 2:
    • Same as Option 1 also Legal and General but only £40,000 worth of cover
    • Cost £15.82 p/m
I am very confused as it seems I would not get a lot more if at changed now. I have no intention of letting our current policy run past us having paid off the mortgage but thinking about leaving it for now.:confused::confused:

This is what I decided to do last time but at least I have sussed out a bit more and decided we don't really need critical illness cover.

Still not heard if we have life insurance with my job.

I would go for cover somewhere between Option 1 and Option 2 as you would want an amount to cover the full mortgage, but also have a bit left over to amke things a bit easier financially if the worst did happen. Is this coverage for both you and DH, if your works policy covers the mortgage I personaly would only get a additional policy to cover DH.

Just a small rant about Ebay if you don't mind.

I bought some Danish Holmegaard items on Ebay on the 16th August. I only paid £11 plus £5 postage so it was quite cheap. All was listed as brand new so I thought they would make nice presents.

    Here is a picture:
    items.jpg

They finally arrived yesterday, recorded delivery and seller had paid £9 for postage. The bowl had been in the largest box so the seller had taken the other items out of their boxes and put them items inside with a bit of bubble wrap. Seller had then wrapped the bowls box in some brown paper but no extra wrapping on that. When it arrived it was clear it had been dropped and the bowl being so heavy that damaged everything else. The is bowl totally smashed and the candle holders full of chips. I think seller should have wrapped it properly. I have sent seller an email with pictures of the damage and asked for a partial refund. The foil cutter is fine even though it does not have its box.

I have not had a reply but surely I should get some money back. I know it can happen to anyone and it did to mee too once but I was able to send a replacement to the buyer.

However it took them 10 days to send it to me which I think is poor but surely they should have enclosed all of the boxes. It may even have saved some of the items.

What do you think? What is a fair refund?

I think its fair to get a refund, all the boxes were shown in the pictures so would have expected to recieve them, plus seller should have packed items properly so they wouldn't be damaged in transit.

    Mortgage-free Glee!
    Hi TG:hello:,

Sooooo annoying. I once bought a glass chopping board from Argos and they sent it with NO packaging. Of course when I received it it was in a million pieces:eek: No surprises really since it was glass:rolleyes: - you wouldn't think some people had a brain:o..

    Good Luck

PS it was a beautiful looking bowl

I think you are entitled to some of your purchase price back, at least half of the £16 you paid, since most of the items were damaged.

I had this happen once with something I bought on eBay, the seller refunded the entire purchase price except for the postage, so that they were not out any cash. Since the item was still repairable, I agreed to this.

If you do not hear from the seller, you can open a dispute process with eBay.

    eBay dispute process

(It says the process is for Items Not Received or Significantly Not as Described... I would say they are definitely the latter, since they were described as being new and arrived very damaged!)

If the seller refuses to give you any refund, you usually have recourse either through Paypal (if you paid with Paypal) and/or through your credit card company (if you paid with credit card either directly or via Paypal).

If the seller insists it was properly packaged, then the Post Office should be liable (though it definitely doesn't sound as though it was properly packaged).

    Good luck!
I want to move to theory. Everything works in theory.
