Has your DH tried gluten free beer?
We buy it for cooking with so we can share dishes like steak & ale pie, with the resident coeliac. Resident coeliac doesn't like the taste of beer except in cooking, preferring cider, I drink any remaining any GF beer and I find it okay. If I was regularly drinking it I would taste a selection to find some the suit me best.
Well done @redofromstart on being alcohol free for a year 🤗

Well done on the alcohol free year!

Well done on the giving up alcohol for a year. That's a great achievement 👍 The cutting down/giving up thread is such a positive place, and the folks who run it, and keep people's totals are just so generous with their time and support. I very often dipped in for a read, as it was just 100% support and zero conflict. And everyone's path was different and everyone's reasons their own - so inspiring.

I grew up on a diet of marmite and white bread (obviously lots of other things too but a marmite sandwich was the go to). My “ibs” style symptoms started after I had my first baby (hideous morning sickness the entire pregnancy too) and was told to take antispasmodics and carry on. I eventually worked out it was wheat and barley after a month long bout of hideousness. Cut it all out and the relief was dramatic. Of course by then my gallbladder was a mess from trying to process and protect for too many years and that had to come out fairly swiftly (gallstones getting stuck are very unpleasant)
Since that’s out the IBS symptoms have all but disappeared provided I don’t eat fried food, lentils, eggs or too much red meat.
And yes we’ve both tried and don’t mind the GF beer, just never managed to find it stocked in any pubs we’ve been to. The GF speckled hen is lovely but I can’t finish a bottle without feeling squiffy!

Thank you everyone.
So a good weekend here, visited a friends house and came away deeply envious of open plan spaces with no clutter. Nice cat and garden too.
I came home and despaired briefly but @greenbee reminded me that there are new episodes of S0rt Y0ur life out and I find that I can be utterly ruthless if I watch that while going through the mountains of inherited accumulated stuff.
Lots sorted into groups for rehoming etc, in part spurred on by being able to 'see' what I want my future living arrangements to look like and how a smaller garden could work.
I made this date and walnut cake but reduced the flour to 6oz and increased the walnuts. I also made this lemon curd last week and then made a lemon and flaked almond roulade (loosely based on this recipe - 4 eggs, flaked almonds instead of pistachio) which was excellent.

It always amazes me how people can just change a recipe. I have been cooking for well over 50 years & still need to use the recipes. Many of which are typed & laminated. My favorite recipe book is the Good Houskeeping c 1965. Given to me in 1969. My DS has obviously been paying attention as with big birthday & mothers day coinciding this year has bought me the new one - he thought it might amuse me.
