Well done on the snug. Hope today went ok, and a protective chocolate barrier is essential."Good financial planning is about not spending money on things that add no value to your life in order to have more money for the things that do". Eoin McGee5

Yes, snug clearing is impressive! If you have built castles in the air, your work should not be lost; that is where they should be. Now put the foundations under them

Thank you everyone. Our visitors left with more than a skips worth of stuff, and the house feels exponentially better again. The spare room is now free of 'stuff' and everyone has some of their preferred things from their father, but also a bit more understanding of the volume and stress of what I am dealing with and that I cannot and will not live my life as a memorial. It was good that expensive things that he enjoyed owning have now been re-homed within the family.
The snug looks completely different. It is a much bigger room when it isn't full of clutter, and will now go back to being the main seating area. I might even manage to sit in there rather than in my tiny study. Huge house, and I spend 80% of my awake time in a room that is smaller than a box room because it isn't full of stuff and ghosts.
Along the way a significant space got cleared in the garage too and I found another eight bags of heat logs so that was a result too, hopefully between those, the logs I bought earlier this year, and the ones my parents have gifted to me I will be able to get through to spring without buying more.
It has been stressful, predictably, and I have eaten more junk than I should. Time to draw a line under that and go back to eating properly. I have had porridge and salad today rather than just junk at least.

That all sounds a mix of emotional, stressful, releasing and reclaiming the space you want to live in. A bit [or a lot] of junk food in the circumstances is understandable. Well done for negotiating it all, feels like a big achievement.7

Well done indeed, and I'm glad there's a bit more space, both physically and emotionally, in the house, and that other people are more understanding too. What a stressful old time. Sounds like you're getting back on track with some healthy eating too x5

That sounds like really hard work, both emotionally and physically. Well done for surviving it …
I salute you for getting back into sensible eating again … any chance you could waft some of that discipline over here … 😉😊

I’m glad the family have been able to take some of the stuff from you. I think this is a lesson to us all about hanging onto things that we could be potentially leaving for someone else to get rid of should the situation arise.I’ve said it before but I do admire how you’ve coped with all this.I get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)8
