The Woolacombe Bay park was definately one of the worst of these parks I've been to, the caravans were old and dirty and didnt look like they had been cleaned for ages.

To go into a caravan for your holiday and see a great big bogey smeared all over the wall and 3 or 4 ashtrays full of butts all over the place is pretty awful, especially when compared with our stay in Ruda holiday park later on in the year where the caravans are kept like new and are fully equiped and cleaned thoroughly.

I would never go back to the Woolacombe one. It was (in my experience) awful.

    minging !
you complained ? what did they say

I've noticed there is a definate 'so what' attitude at some of the Parks you go to. We stayed at one of the Norfolk ones and the caravan's carpet was covered in dog hair (OH is allergic) but they weren't really interested. Same at one in Dorset, it was very much, 'well you're on a cheap Sun Holiday' what do you expect!

Others have been clean and tidy and fine...

me and the family have been to Heachem Beach and it was really nice, lovely beach for miles, clean caravan, clubs to keep little ones amused for hours well worth it. When we went we didnt purchase any passes and still got in the clubhouse for free. Bargain!!

Also been to Weymouth Bay, passes worked out very expensive for the family though. Quite a trek to get to the beach too.

sorry to be stupid ... but ...

they are printing 12 token over 2 weeks - does that mean they print 6 a week? does sunday's paper (news of the world is it?) have a token? they say the booking site opens on thursday but if there's no sunday token will it be friday when we get the 6th token?

there should be one tomorrow in the News of the World

They apologised (like they had heard it a few times already that day) then gave us another caravan which wasnt really a lot better to be honest. We ended up coming home a day early because we were both fed up with it.

Maybe the other parks owned by the same company would be better but I certainly wouldnt take the chance, even if it is "only a sun holiday" they are surely the same caravans they rent out at full price so its hardly a good advert is it.

Ruda holiday park on the other hand has always been excellent, I have stayed there 5 times now over the last 7 years and its always been really good. Always nice and clean, nice park and literally just over the road from the beach. Its only 10 mins away from woolacombe and its a lovely drive if you go the country lanes way from Croyde.

As smallblueplanet says, some of these parks do have a "so what" attitude to people on sun holidays. I've stayed at a few parks where you really are treated like scum just for wanting a cheap break.

I do agree that sometimes if you add up all the extras they charge then it doesnt always work out much cheaper but I NEVER pay for the entertainment passes and always seem to be ok and last time we went to Ruda we didnt pay for linen either as we were camping the weekend before so we had our stuff but the linen was in the caravan anyway even though we hadnt paid for it. Not really that worried about going into the bars on the parks anyway, they are always really expensive.

I've just remembered another one that was pretty bad when I went there - Sussex Beach Holiday Village.

It was a very basic place and the "caravan" that we had was more like one of those mobile classrooms we used to have at school. It looked bad from the outside and wasnt much better on the inside, it had a very thick corded carpet on the floor, not too bad as you would expect something hardwearing but I wouldnt have expected the carpet to carry on up the walls to the "dado rail" - obviously to stop chairs and things rubbing the walls but it looked hideous.

It was fairly clean however and certainly nothing to complain about, that is, until I found it the floor was rotten, on stepping out of the shower on the second day I put my foot straight through the floor and got my leg stuck in the hole!! Bit dangerous especially being starkers and wet!

Again, we complained and got another caravan but (and I hate to admit it) I didnt have another shower until I got home! LOL

Another horror Park was Corton Beach Holiday Village. When we arrived the place stank of p*ss! I reckon that the cleaner must have cleaned the table and sides in the chalet with the same cloth they'd cleaned the toilet with! After cleaning things down the smell went (mostly). Grim! We saw a few people drive up and a bit later after checking their chalets drive off!!! We were poor and couldn't afford that luxury.
