First a PDF "cover note" would not be acceptable, all insurers send out original ones

Actually there a number of insurers who are issuing PDF insurance certificates -

    http://www.its4me.co.uk/

I would guess that the law didn't envisage insurance companies doing this and issuing a certificate like this complies with the letter, if not the spirit, of the law.

My online insurer, https://www.ecarinsurance.co.uk sent a PDF one on the internet then posted the actual documents. But to be honest, the official documents don't look any better than they do off my inkjet printer set on high quality.

My OH was stopped by the police a year ago, and was told to 'produce docs'. OH failed to do so within the week, so he was summoned to attend court for failing to produce. When he appeared at court, even though he HAD the insurance to cover him, he was fined £100, 6 points and 40 community service.. Also, police wanted £180 for OH to get his car back from the compound. (He told them to keep it). So basically, he should have gone to produce on time, and this is his consequence..

Good luck, and get a good solicitor!!

original ones. I used to get insured at intervals on another car and I always received a cover note.

This was temp cover so they wont send out a cover note in the post. They email it me because it's quicker.

how long where you insured for, months? im insured for 12 days on temp cover.
Yet you who didnt have one then, had one to present 7 days later which would at best have been 4 working days including the day of request

I work at Specsavers in and due to xmas im working till 10pm, at 10pm at night i want to go home and not drive from one end of london to the other so thats why i did it on my day off. To make maters worse i had to my parents house to pick it up (that what made me late).
I find your whole post dodgy. Also I do not think you were insured

If you think im lair, dont post then. I'd rather listen to people who have some advise.

Why? Your car insurance should be at your address, not your parents.

I had to go home to pick it up. I use my address on insurance as it cheaper because west london safer.

As im young and sometimes drive around in some Flash cars (not mine, but had insurance whenever i drove them) i get get pulled over a few times. Everytime i have been giving RT10 i have handed them in on the 7th day and often after the time of receiving it, this was a police station in Leicester. The police station where i have been told to go this time is in London.

The police station where you produce your documents is one that is elected by you, not where you are told to officers. If I was stopped in London and as I live in Scotland I would not be producing in London but in my home town as that is the station most convenient to myself (if I don't have my documents with me).

The HO/RT1 completed by the police officers has the date and time of stop and requirement to produce written on it and it is 7 days from the date AND TIME so if you produce them after that time on the 7th day then you have failed to produce within the timescale of the requirement. Some places may have a little given and take with this but 7 days is a fairly lengthy time to produce and if you weren't on holiday/living away from home then really you have no excuse.

Is your license registered at your address of your parents address, they may cross reference the license to the insurance, just a thought
