There is something coming into play next year that will require councils in England to offer kerbside recycling services for a LOT more than they currently do. I know ours have said they will be reintroducing food waste collections from flats next year - although this was a disaster last time as the bin was constantly full of inappropriate stuff and stinking, won't bother us now though! I think it was also mentioned that they would be reintroducing generally tetrapacks being able to go into the recycling bin - they used to allow this, and then stopped.🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡

Our area is ridiculously strict and will check the bin bags and recycling bags. If there's something in there that's not supposed to be they won't take your rubbish and they may issue a fine. If there's something I'm not sure about I give it to a friend who lives in a different less strict area. I might contact the council though as they'll have to provide an alternative option if the won't collect small electronics from the kerbside and the recycling centre won't take them.
I already had to bring this stuff from a different county because the county it was in requires proof of address and a slot booked online in advance for the recycling centres.
This storage unit stuff really is the gift that keeps on giving 😂Debts 04/01/25 01/12/25

Some shops like Currys will take old electrical items. You can look and see if there's anything near you here: https://www.recycleyourelectricals.org.uk/how-to-recycle-electronics/retailer-take-back/"Good financial planning is about not spending money on things that add no value to your life in order to have more money for the things that do". Let's just accept that I live in one of the most awkward places in Britain 😂
That site recommended, as the only place within 5 miles, the recycling centre I already tried.
Further afield are shops where they'll take the old machine if I buy a replacement.
It did make me chuckle though!Debts 04/01/25 01/12/25

Technically, I now have coving up after 5 years. Unfortunately the whole thing was like a chuckle brothers episode, it wouldn't stay up, it snapped, it had to be screwed in, and it looks terrible. It's too low on the left and too high on the right.
It is making me laugh though. He only charged me a tenner, it is technically progress. It's given me and a few mates a very good laugh.
It's so bad I will be forced to do something about it asap!

That's a pain with your electrical recycling @Rhyddid2026. If items are still working I usually pass them on via Olio and FB free sites. Do you think they might be any good for spare parts - its amazing how many broken items are on FB/ebay listed as not working for spare parts. I sold a broken airpod for a few quid a year or two ago - feels better than putting it in the bin (I'm a bit of a recycling fan).
I took an old iphone cable to B&Q the other day - I expected them to have a bin to put it in but the guy behind the till took it - the website says they take things like toasters and hairdryers if they have a store near you, or maybe another diy store does the same: https://www.diy.com/services/weee.
I tried to pass on my old sewing machine to a charity last year - but the ones I could find were miles away, so I ended up selling it on FB. I'd like to find something like a tool loaning charity where people can borrow those annoying items you spend say a fiver or a tenner on - use once and never need them again - I've got a few in my garage I'd happily donate."Think of many things, do one"

It was a teasmaid from the late 80s, it had never been used so I wasn't sure if it worked. I've given it to a friend from a different county to put in her recycling. It's a ridiculous thing to have to do but it had been in my living room on and off since May 2024 and was driving me bonkers 😂
Thanks everyone for the suggestions and links though, I'm sure I'll have more stuff to get rid of in the next few months so can try them again then.Debts 04/01/25 01/12/25

You're on a roll Rhy - although I'm not sure whether to congratulate or commiserate over the coving! We had some done at the flat a few years ago that wasn't marvellously done (we had to do some elaborate work with Caulk to fill some of the gaps!) but it wasn't as bad as yours sounds!
The front room pictures are all in place - we worked out the placement and then MrEH did the actual hanging yesterday. The canvas looks SO good, I'm really pleased, and the black and white prints are perfect for the other wall. The composite frame I posted a picture of on my diary is also up - in the hallway.
We've agreed that we're now going to put any more decorating in the front room on hold until the new year, so all paint and similar can go back to the shed. The main thing we wanted to finished was the wall we've painted and that is very much achieved, and we're really pleased with the look and feel of it.🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡

It is truly so bad it's hysterical. The left corner has taken 4 layers of poly filler to get sorted. I've had to trim both edges with a stanley knife so they look like they line up.
I think I've done all the filling now (it also wasn't touching the wall at the bottom and some places needed two layers), so I can sand it down this evening. I might leave the painting for now as I have other more pressing stuff to doDebts 04/01/25 01/12/25
