Thanks for the vote of confidence in me. Though I must say it was nice to spot a potential scam that didn't want to rush me into a decision. See future emails or something like that0 -
American Express do send promotions by email which whilst they dont say "click here to log in" they do contain a link which will prompt you to log in to save that particular promotion to your card.flaneurs_lobster said:
Almost certainly dodgy email for the reasons you state. Financial institutions will never (or at least they shouldn't) include a "click here to login" link in an email but will simply ask you to go to a particular page once you've logged in.OriginalCowPat said:WarningJust spotted this discussion on your website related to email below. It looks like a fraud/scam email.Normally Barclaycard include the last four numbers of my card, but not in this email. It also had a link for me to log in, which they do not normally do. I've not clicked it. Finally the email addressooks dodgy
Virgin Money are similar but the link just goes to a VM page taking about their Cashback offers but then VM dont have website based banking any more, only on an app so that may be why there is no log in.

Amex - you're right - pisspoor, login button top right in the email, albeit under my FirstName and the last 5 digits of my card number.American Express do send promotions by email which whilst they dont say "click here to log in" they do contain a link which will prompt you to log in to save that particular promotion to your card.

Virgin Money most certainly do still have online web-based access with the usual functionality, in fact more than one to cater for their legacy accounts.0 -
While I agree that it is good to be cautious and not click links in emails etc., In this case, the email is genuine and sent by Visa who run the scheme on behalf of Barclaycard.OriginalCowPat said:Just spotted this discussion on your website related to email below. It looks like a fraud/scam email.
If you wanted to access the rewards site via a Barclays website, you can do so via https://www.barclaycard.co.uk/personal/customer/barclaycard-cashback-rewards
Signup and access to the site has always been optional/different from the main site.
In fact, this is at least the 2nd version of the visa rewards scheme that Barclaycard have launched and then stopped.

Did you have to self declare that you qualified? If not, as I don't, I may give it a go tooflaneurs_lobster said:
By way of contrast, despite in no way meeting the financial requirements (static £30 in current account, no savings) I applied for an upgrade to Premier Banking earlier this week for no reason other than wanting free Apple+ TV. I don't believe that I was asked the question - I certainly didn't make any kind of false claim or statement about my earnings or savings.ForumUser7 said:

But obviously I knew that I did not meet their stated criteria. There's no "application" as such, simply a request to upgrade.1 -
Out of interest @jbrassy when you say "standing orders back and forth"... Do you still pay your salary in, or did you move that elsewhere and just use a standing order into Barclays to satisfy them?jbrassy said:
Without being boastful, I do earn enough to qualify for this account and signed up for it a while ago. However, earlier this year I was downgraded to a normal Barclays account as I wasn't paying my salary into it. Now I do standing orders back and forth to keep them happy.flaneurs_lobster said:
Reversion is always a possibility, frankly I'm surprised that I wasn't bounced immediately. You'd think that they might check before generating a new Premier card which is apparently in the post.noitsnotme said:
I wonder if they will realise you don’t fit the criteria and reverse the decision? Might give it a try myself.flaneurs_lobster said:

Currently I don't use Barclays for any services so not a worry if it gets the heave-ho, at least I've managed to watch the first two episodes of Alien: Earth on my new big telly. If you're not paying enough money into the account, it'll get downgraded after 12 months.
I did a switch to Barclays last year and have Premier. Useful for Apple TV and I also pay for Avios Rewards. I did move my salary to them but I'd rather move it back elsewhere as I don't want to do all my banking with them...

So far as I understand it, the rule is you need to have your salary paid in to the account in order to be eligible. Using a standing order to pay in might satisfy any algorithmic ongoing eligibility checks they do, but if the account is ever manually reviewed a standing order from someone with the same name as the account holder would quite clearly not be a salary payment.bagand96 said:

I don't "do all my banking" with Barclays by any stretch of the imagination but they do receive my salary; immediately moved elsewhere each month (which you could create a standing order to do if you chose).0 -
And it won't. Their whole email was giving notice that they are scrapping the current scheme and plan to relaunch/rename it..NoodleDoodleMan said:The above link won't allow me to register for rewards site.0
