Economy 10 & Smart Meters

@PZ19 I "think" what they are trying to say (and whoever wrote that reply to you doesn't fully understand the situation clearly either!) is that the Second TOU Rate 1 and Second TOU Rate 2 will be added together and treated as Off-Peak (along of course with the normal TOU rate 2).
Whilst the three "off-peak" TOU Rate Register readings should be shown separately on any bill, they should all be charged at the off-peak tariff rate. The only Peak rate is the first TOU Rate 1.
Just for clarity, now that we understand that this 1422-B's display is similar to the updated 1416-B's we mentioned earlier, when the off-peak is active ie. the ALCS is closed, LC2 will be on the display - (but not additionally LC1 as on a 1416-B and some others as that's the separate 2A switch not present in the 1422-B). You also have the red neon indicator on the water heater switch if turned on, to show when off-peak is active.
Otherwise, in standard rate the switches on the display will show as your previous picture -

Cheers Chris, thanks to your help and others in here I now completely understand what’s happening. Like I say I take daily readings as I’m a financial/numbers geek so know exactly what I am using and what I should be billed.1

No more news on this, until they have their solution fully tested. Have it in writing I won’t be overcharged for the water/heat “peak” readings. I know exactly what the bills should be and will be sending them that this morning so they have that in writing. As obviously today the tariff rates change again (2nd time since had the not so smart meter)0

Here we are into November so 5 months later and no progress on this with EDF. Still got the 4 readings, they still won’t answer my simple question as to what times are being sent to the meter.. ridiculous. They had told me a couple of months ago that they had a solution and would take 5 weeks to test. Clearly it hasn’t worked0

Maybe time to take your complaint to the energy ombudsmanPZ19 said:Here we are into November so 5 months later and no progress on this with EDF. Clearly it hasn’t workedTheir are other firms using the same meter - for instance - the thread here from a Scottish Power customer on essentially what sounds like a White Meter Comfort plan (in theory still with weathercall although not sure SP have explained any seasonal time variotions ).Given the relative complexity - I speculated above in a post what seems like a long time ago - this meter might become a problem for future supplier moves - and I would again suggest you think about asking for a more standard single element meter.Note in the case of the SP customer for instance - they have been told they cannot move to a standard E7 type multirate tariff with the 1422 meter."On tariffs & meter setup, they're basically saying ... and imply that I can't switch to a regular "Economy X" tariff without a physical apparatus switch, which seems to imply that I'm stuck w/ C+WM for the foreseeable"SO the choice of meter and their inability to set it and bill from it properly - seems more than worthy of a complaint - as is their choice of the meter unless there was a good tariff incentive to do so.Even more so since months later it seems EDF still seem to be struggling still to get to grips with configuring and billing from it in any complex form.So again - unless you really think your going to benefit from EDF offering a suitable alternative based on it's ability to meaure live and restricted seperately (like an old twin meter install would). If however they are only planing on offering E7 style rates - it seems to me - now in part reinforced by what SP have told one of their customers - a risk staying with the meter - that could tie you to a supplier you might be thinking of leaving after months of aggro.

I agree that a complaint, followed if necessary by an Ombudsman referral, seems to be the way to go with this.Scot_39 said:SO the choice of meter and their inability to set it and bill from it properly - seems more than worthy of a complaint - as is their choice of the meter unless there was a good tariff incentive to do so.N. The complaint has been in with EDF for months, but the complaints handler is reliant on the tech/smart meter team. I will escalate to ombudsman. I agree a meter swap to a 1416 maybe the easiest solution. I assume that could if necessary supply me 7/8/9/10 hours off peak electricity on the heating/water circuit? My issue at the moment is that they seem unwilling to tell me what times they are sending to the meter to switch over to off peak. To just get back to 3 readings would be a start and surely the only way to do that is to get the times sent the meter to be correct. How hard can that be?
luckily I am a numbers geek so have kept daily readings and sent them what I think I owe them based on the changing tariffs over the month, and they’ve said there would be financial recompense, so am pretty chilled about it..but I think I agree a meter swap is probably the way forward1
