you could try using the CAB helptoclaim helpline who can do a calculation for you, based on the info you give them, and the dates.  however I have not personally used this so its a suggestion.  also turnus can I think do this, some people find it helpful to chat to an adviser about their claim and situation.

Need help to get universal credit?

CAB helptoclaim tel  0800 144 8 444 or use their online chat.

Ok, so your statement in June will show you the amounts. I guess it's time to make tea, for a while.

    Hello,

Sorry if these questions have been asked before, I've looked through threads but everyone's circumstances are different.

I'm on ESA with an IR top up Support group. I am on housing benefit I only pay for one spare bedroom. I'm on council tax benefit & I don't pay anything. I'm also on PIP low care high mobility which I know is not affected by this move.

I understand when I apply for U/C I will get one more payment of ESA. Does the housing benefit stop & I have to pay the full rent while the U/C is being sorted out?.

And what happens with the council tax will that stop & I need to pay until the U/C is sorted out for that too.

I have no photo ID so I know I will need to be verified by a phone call as I'm housebound (I'm hoping I can ask for that because I won't be able to get to a job centre)

My ESA prognosis date was 2022 I've read that moving from ESA to U/C won't trigger an assessment because it's totally different people doing them both is this correct?

Thank you & sorry if these questions have been asked a million times before
I mean no offence at all when I ask these questions.  I ask because I'm intrigued, honestly, and I am curious to know the process benefit claimants have to go through now. What are using your spare bedroom for? Why do you have no photo ID? Do you have carers if you're housebound? Can anyone help you leave the house?  How do you get to your GP?
I had to have an assessment a few years ago. Similar circumstances to yourself. Although, as you said, everyone's circumstances are different

@oldtrout I'm sorry I do not wish to talk about my private life on here. My purpose for coming here is to get advice on going through the migration from legacy benefits to U/C  :)

I have more questions if that's OK.

I'm going to apply for U/C this Thursday 22nd May. Once I've made my account & start filling in the questions I'm guessing that's when the 5 week countdown starts?

I know I will get another 2 weeks of housing benefit once I start applying for U/C but the process takes 5 weeks so that's three weeks paying full rent. When I get my first U/C money will it have the extra three weeks rent or is it just hard luck & you have to cover those weeks yourself?

As I'm starting the claim on Thursday the 22nd will my new style ESA always be paid on a Thursday? And if so will the first payment be the 5th of June?

The same for U/C will it be paid on a Thursday because I started applying for it on a Thursday?

It's not really a 5 week wait. When you first apply your first assessment period starts.  So if you applied on the 22nd May, the month assessment period ends on 21st June.  That's when the system checks what your income has been and works out how much you are due in your 1 st payment.  You are paid a week later.

Your payment date is the same every month except as you already know when that would fall on weekends or bank holidays.

Transitional Protection means you will continue to receive the amounts you had in the legacy benefits but, as in your circumstances you will receive considerably more than a brand new claimant of UC in the same circumstances,  you will not receive any annual increases until that other person's annual increases bring him into line with what you will receive.

Mistakes are made so please get your award checked when you receive your payment notice.

@rarees1 Thank you that's answered a question I was wondering, that my award stays the same until everyone else catches up with me. I knew I would have been worse off if I didn't wait for the migration letter & get the TE,

My next ESA payment date is Monday, I've had the follow on payment of the old style so Monday "should" be my first new style ESA. We will then see if ESA has gotten to my account to add the extra for being in the support group or buried under the backlog.

There are a lot of people being sent the provide fit notes again, so if you receive one. Just add a message to your journal that you're migrating from the legacy ESA support group or WRAG and you're not required to supply them.

@Starbright2 The stuff from the council all sounds correct.
If they have a rule saying 'unemployed=full CTR' then that saves them time having to do an income calculation.
(BTW following cutbacks their office IS now a phone box).
I assume that you have already talked to your LL about how you will be paying the rent in future.
