    Thanks Starbright2.

I've put the money to one side so will wait for UC or Debt Management to contact me.

I had a council tax bill & a letter from ESA. I don't pay any council tax because my council says that if you don't have a job you don't pay anything. The ESA letter just says we can pay your ESA, which I had before the letter.

So I contacted the council & they said there has been a change of circumstances in April this year. I moved in March this year & had to pay some of the council tax from the last property which I did & in time received the council tax bill showing that I don't owe anything for the new property. They said that would have triggered the ESA letter.

What I want to know is who told the council that I had a change of circumstances because it was not me or does the council tax computer have a fit every now and then?

As I have just come out of 4 years of harassment/anti social behaviour against me from neighbours one connected to the council I'm wondering if someone has reported to the council will it effect my U/C?.

My parent had a roof repair booked with the council & that was cancelled and I was told it was the computer glitch & has also today received a letter saying thank you for filling in the ** form we need your national insurance number. It is genuine as this person is collecting info that the form relates to it's just my parent didn't do it. I am now waiting for a phone call to see if we can get to the bottom of who filled this form in because it wasn't my parent. Though I suspect it will have been done online.

They changed back my council tax to what it was that I won't have to pay anything which they will confirm with a letter in the post & they don't know why it happened.

To me there are too many coincidences here or am I being over sensitive?.

When you paid off the balance for your previous property, the council system re-processed your account. Even if you owe zero, system recalculations can temporarily drop an automated Council Tax Reduction (CTR) marker until the system re-verifies your ongoing benefit entitlement, automatically triggering a standard bill.

Whenever a local authority updates or queries a Council Tax Reduction record, an automated notice is sent back to the DWP ATLAS system. This often generates a standard DWP routine letter stating, "We can pay your ESA." It is simply the system confirming your status remains active. Could also be a form missing information you previously submitted. .Just phone the DWP and council, but if they ask for info, submit everything again and copy it. Never assume they'll see what you're claiming as for the council demand you you could cover yourself by making an installment that will be returned once it's been sorted or just wait until it's done. And remember every council is different depending on area you lived and now living.

DWP & Council Tax do share information. I never told them about my PIP award (already getting 100% CT paid) but it appeared on my Council Tax account all the same as an income source.

Also when you applied for UC there is a tick box about applying for CTR. If that was ticked details about your UC award would have gone through to them.

I think it will be information they've lost or something missing on a form submitted. Councils are never quick to sort anything but very quick to suspend a claim, whilst they take weeks to do an assessment because of queues.
