  • Had a letter yesterday to say they are going to fit sprinklers in all the flats in my building. It will look ugly but if they need to do it for safety I guess better to have them. I was worried about the cost but they never charged my when they fitted a new fire door, seems like they don’t charge for fire safety works (or we just haven’t had a bill yet!).
  • £5.95 on lunch yesterday as I had run out of filling for sandwiches, about £35 on food in Asd@.

    Roll on the weekend!
  • Work was hard today for various reasons. This evening I have been working on the flat chaos. I paid for film development, £19.90 with postage back of negatives and bought some knitting needles, £9. I also bought a book in Oxfam at lunchtime, £2. Tomorrow I’m going to leave my wallet at home.

I'm still writing down everything I spend. Can anyone recommend a good app, even a paid for one at £2-3 a month. The one I’m using doesn’t keep the right date.

You can just use a simple spreadsheet, like Google sheets to record your spending, that's free.

Could you set yourself a weekly spending budget for extras like clothing, books and coffee and then when it's gone it's gone. It's what I do and I find weekly works better as don't have long until get next allowance.

I do something similar, I transfer my weekly spending budget to a separate account (and bank).
  • I have tried weekly before but maybe I will try it again.

In other, promising news, I did not take my wallet to work today. I wanted to go out for a coffee in the afternoon and planned to go out for dinner after work but I could not do either of them as I didn’t have my wallet. Now I’m back at home with a belly full of home cooked food and I have about £20 in my wallet that I otherwise wouldn’t. I might try this as a regular thing.

I voted yes but only because I bought a bean to cup machine which is now 6 years old (I think) and gives me lovely coffee every morning and even if I only "saved" one coffee a day, 5 times a week will have saved me thousands.

    Machine cost £200 from memory. Assume I save a minimum of £2 a day, that's £500 a year X 6.

    Best buy ever.
  • Went into town this morning. Got my eyebrows tinted (a bit too much) and my lip waxed. It was only £17.50 as I’d paid a deposit. Sadly there was a bit of other splurge spending, about £35 worth and then coffees and a cookie to the value of £10.

Need to put it all into my app and then transfer it to my spreadsheet.

I think £90 is a reasonable and affordable weekly budget for spending for me. Including birthday presents.

I don’t need to buy anything tomorrow except a loaf of bread and some hoummus but that comes from the food card. I’ll start tomorrow, it’s pointless starting on Monday as payday doesn’t fall on a Monday.
  • I proved my theory that if I take my wallet out I spend.
