Should itsthelittlethings spend less on coffee?

  • Finally Friday. Hopefully work will be quite chilled. Dinner last night was great, great food, great company. I got a chicken from the butcher and it was amazing. Also got some baby cuddles. Did most of the washing up afterwards so there’s not loads left today.

Three day week next week. Even better.

  • It’s finally the weekend! Not back to work until Wednesday. Just waiting for Mr Unsuitable. Need to do the washing up as well but am just getting warm and cosy. I bought some pain au chocolat for the morning from Gails. Hopefully they’ll be nice.

It’s going to rain all the time I’m away. I have to do an assignment but otherwise I’ll mainly be knitting in front of the wood burning stove with maybe the occasional walk if it clears. My mum said she’s got some stewing steak so we’ll make a beef stew. I can’t wait. I’m well overdue some time off! It will be lovely to see her and spend some time with her. Apparently I have to help decorate the house!

  • Am at my mum’s relaxing. We’re going to put the tree up in a bit. At the moment I’m having coffee in from of the fire. She buys Tescos bog standard ground and it’s quite nice so maybe I’ll try getting that for a bit. It would certainly be cheaper than what I normally buy.

I’ve just started on darning a jumper so I’ll finish that after we do the tree. We’re having beef stew and mash for dinner tonight and then we might watch a film. Very relaxing day so far. It’s not even raining although rain was definitely forecast.

  • Had a good day yesterday. Finished darning the jumper which I’m wearing now. Nice and warm in front of the wood burning stove. We watched half of something on Netflix and will watch the other half tonight. Now I need to start on putting buttons on the cardigan I made for my great niece. The way you make the buttonholes is a little complex so I need to watch a video to see how to do that.

Am also going to do my assignment today. I think it’s on branding but I need to check the questions again. I’ll start after breakfast, maybe at 7. It doesn’t seem like it’s raining so a nice little walk could be on the cards. Baked potatoes for dinner tonight I hope. Cheese and coleslaw on mine.

    Having a lovely time.

  • Got the first draft of my assignment done this morning and will polish it this afternoon. Have started knitting a hat which is going well. I need a new hat as I only have one and it’s getting a bit worn. I’ll keep it for wearing under my bike helmet.

Just relaxing with a cup of coffee in front of the fire. My mum seems well, she went out to her boat this morning before the tide had gone down enough and the water went over her waders! I’m very glad I’ve got two more days off work, I certainly feel like I’ve earned it.

Am having a thoroughly lazy time with many decaf coffees.

Hi, if the Tesco coffee is half decent, could you consider making your own blend with what you currently use? What is your long term aim for your money? V x

To be honest, I think I may just switch to the Tescos coffee when I have finished the bags of nice coffee I have. No point paying a premium when it tastes the same.

I guess my main long term aim for my money at the moment is to build up a proper emergency fund. At the moment if anything happened with my job I’d be at the mercy of UC and that’s not a lot. Plus house repairs etc. Longer term I’d like to move house, have a nice holiday, buy a new camera. I think once my debt is paid off I will allocate £200 a month to EF and £100 to the other things. That’s the same money as I am finding I can afford towards debt. It could even be a bit more as I’ve gone through this month’s spending and worked out what was basically a waste of money - it’s a fair bit.

Had a lovely morning. I finished my assignment and submitted it. It’s out of my hands now. I also had a 45 minute careers appointment which gave me more clarity about what I do and don’t want in a job, even if not too many tangible ideas about what I might do. It helped me to feel a bit more relaxed about my career. Then we went out for a nice walk and bought some fish for dinner tonight. I’m having mackerel which I absolutely love. Going to have a coffee and knit this afternoon.

  • Just having my morning coffee and listening to the radio. Home today, back to work tomorrow. It’s been a good break although the weather hasn’t been great. At least I got my assignment done which was my main goal. Next week is what they call “student choice week”. One thing I’m going to spend time doing is the taster courses for the two courses I might think about doing next and see how I feel about them.

Getting the train this afternoon. This morning we’re going to finish watching the film we watched last night. It’s kind of a Christmas film called The Holdovers. It’s available on Netflix and I’d highly recommend it. It’s one of my favourite films.

I’m quite looking forward to getting home although it’s been nice to be away. I have a GP appointment late this afternoon and then our knitting group’s Christmas drink.

I’m doing well with my finances although things are a bit tight. I think I’ll make it to payday! Annoyingly I have a dentist appointment the day before payday so having to keep funds back for that. I am lucky to have an NHS dentist though so it could be worse.

Finished watching The Holdovers this morning, my mum said she really liked it. Then we went out for a really nice walk to the next village along the marsh to the post office. Much needed as I’ve been a bit lazy over the weekend. Then lunch and home on the train.

GP trip (everything is ok) and knitting group Christmas drinks at a posh hotel bar. Had a lovely time - good conversation and a couple of nice (non-alcoholic) drinks. Early start tomorrow but just a three day week. Then family Christmas celebration at the weekend.

  • I’ve had a really good day at work. The new rota has come out and I’m on it, meaning that I’ve probably passed my probation if it’s three months (can’t remember). It was a bit quieter and more chilled out today and I got on with everyone.

Having a baked potato (my favourite) for dinner tonight. No spend day today. Two days to the weekend! I need to wrap my Christmas presents.
