Should itsthelittlethings spend less on coffee?

  • I have done some little spending this morning on myself. I have £50 cash in my purse to last the week.

Even booked a train ticket to London in January.

I paid £300 off debt. That is £150 towards real debt and £150 towards what I spent just before payday.

A suggestion from another thread made me think of you... have you looked at your local college for beauty treatments, they're usually a fraction of the cost of going to a salon. The treatments do usually take longer.
What would you get if all you got was what you were thankful for?
  • I did look into the local beauty college. I could save money but it’s only open weekdays so I’m not sure if it’s worth booking half a day of holiday to save £14.

I’ve been budgeting in cash this week. It’s tentatively going well so far. It’s very easy to forget that card is real money. I keep looking at the notes I have left for this week and thinking, wow, that’s loads! £35 on card would seem like nothing but in cash it doesn’t.

I’ve got a photography course on Saturday and I’m going to a craft fair with a friend on Sunday. I have also booked a yoga class which was £20 but I think I’ll enjoy it. Must also do my studying on Sunday.

Need to do the washing up and then probably bed.

  • I have £45 cash as I took back the £10 I was going to put in my friend's daughter's card for Xmas. I think it will just cause trouble on reflection.

Can't believe it's only Wednesday. I'm on lates this week. Macaroni cheese for dinner tonight. The freezer comes into its own when I'm on late shift as I like to keep my sleep/ wake cycle the same so don't have any time to cook in the evening.

Roll on the weekend. I'm doing a photography day school at my old sixth form college. It was around £70 which isn't bad considering the cost of paper. Last time I nearly said something to someone who kept using the different tongs in the different chemicals. I'll buy a cheese sandwich from the Co-op over the road for lunch. I got one good print last time which is about right for a day in the darkroom.

I am in a bit of a pickle as I ordered a new camera (not one of the main brands so hopefully it will still be good). When I looked at the shipping it said "the driver cannot leave it in a safe place". We do have a small niggling issue with parcels very occasionally going missing where I live. My neighbour's boyfriend (who doesn't even live here) ordered a second pair of trainers and my hapless neighbour returned them as he picked up the parcel "by mistake". She sometimes sends me long endless WhatsApps about her life and goings on. She is a Romanian translator and her boyfriend is unemployed/ unable to work. I'm not quite sure what his deal is but he had a social worker when they met at least. The social worker advised them not to move in together as he would be at risk of being homeless if they split up. He seems to be here most of the time anyway. He's extremely annoying but he can't help it.

I made a list of things that I want. New proper digital camera, £800, deposit, stamp duty etc for moving house £10,000, art summer school, £1000. It looks achievable written down. That is £12,000 which is 3 years at £300/ month if my maths is right. Obviously the emergency fund is the priority so say 4 years. I could just about stick it out here for 4 years.

This song I love called "I didn't come here for art" is on the radio. It's very eighties dance. Time to wash up.

Can you not take a packed lunch on Saturday?  It's only a small thing, but it all helps.

£10k for a deposit and stamp duty sounds really low - are you in a super cheap area?

It's great to have a plan though, it really helps keep the focus going.

It's not a deposit, it's movers fees, solicitors and stamp duty.  You would need around 20k for a deposit and fees for the cheapest decent place around here.

  • Thanks for your comment jwil. It has inspired me to make a sandwich rather than buy lunch.

  • Had an ok day at work today. A bit up and down. I’m tackling the washing up (just been to Tescos to buy washing up liquid, slipped and bought some dark chocolate as well).

Am having fun and games trying to get my camera delivered. They came today and left a card. I really hope they can manage to deliver it but they don’t deliver on Saturdays and even if they did, I’m out this Saturday.

Spent a bit on food today. No other spends which is good. I did lend someone at work £5 as she needed cash. We shall see if I get it back! Neither a lender nor a borrower be, as my dad used to say.

My friend paid me back £50 having borrowed £30 the other day. He said he would pay me back on Friday so I’m not quite sure how he has money today. He’s a bit annoying as now I have to give him back £20. I think he thinks he’s being funny when he send it to me via PayPal. I’ll have to look and see if there’s a message. I really don’t lend people money very often! This week has not been good for it.
