When you open the account,  it should offer contact option by phone or email you click whatever I don't believe you can choose both. Also check your email spam box just incase everything is being marked as spam or junk.

I get a mix of both, but it's not consistent and sometimes I get no notification at all anyway (as was the case for the message to say I was having a review!  The most important activity on my account for the past 5 years!).

I think when I did it, I'm certain I tried to submit both options, but it chose one or the other. Saying that they also send a verification code.

If I can ask one more question before I am set, is there a way to have them send you a text and an email if the journal needs to be kept an eye on. I'll try and keep remembering to log into the journal. Not sure what stuff they ask you or whatever from time to time but heard it's important, but I only get an email (and even that failed one time when there was a reply from them). So just hoping I could catch it.

There's an option to choose whether you want to be contacted by email or text, although you should have been asked the same question when you were making your UC application.

Login to your UC account

Home > Report A Change > Contact Details 

Follow the prompts, enter your email address and telephone number (although it refers to "new email address" I just re-entered my email address, I don't know if you can leave this blank) and then you can add / change your Contact Preference to / from email or text.

Thanks, I probably was asked but why they won't let you have both I don't know. I don't really want to mess about with stuff as I'm a bit paranoid about changing things so will just try and keep an eye out. I may change it if it gives problems. So far I only didn't get alerted one time, the rest were ok.

@TimeLord1 I set up via phone and online. There's been so much back and forth in not even sure any more. Originally it was online while over the phone if that makes sense (they talked me through it). 

Had calls in between with them and asking about fortnightly payments and things like that so it's just email for now. Just thought maybe there was a way to have both but as there's been so much messing about and me accidentally doing things anyway I may leave as is while it's (touch wood) ok for now. There only been one missed. If I have trouble I'll definitely refer back to here to change it. 

I think I did check spam folders and there was nothing that one time. The rest it's been ok to normal folder.

Sounds like your claim has settled down now. I think you applied in March? So it should be quiet now that you've done everything that they've requested of you. Good luck 👍
