    Highway Code Rule 239:
    https://www.gov.uk/guidance/the-highway-code/waiting-and-parking-238-to-252
"When using an electric vehicle charge point, you should park close to the charge point and avoid creating a trip hazard for pedestrians from trailing cables. Display a warning sign if you can."

Might be safer to put up a 12ft pole on his property with a 4ft arm at the top with a cable trailing down to the car.....

Surely they have measured it, but unless that woman is over 2m tall (or very far away to quote Father Ted) the boom doesn't look high enough to me, especially in the dark. (There is good reason for that 12' height)

Or do they assume that no-one ever wears a tall hat, platform shoes, rides a scooter on the pavement or carries a potted aspidistra? (Or more likely, an umbrella)
I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

(except air quality and Medical Science ;))

I agree, that image on the linked web pages shows the pole arm at a height that really is too short.  I also suspect that a tall pole like that shown (or even one actually tall enough to satisfy the 12' mentioned upthread) would need planning permission.

And even if it were safe, legal and practicable, it wouldn't guarantee a parking space.

I can also imagine that at least 1 out of every 5 school kids that walks underneath it will attempt to swing on it!  :p

I'm surprised that manufacturers and installers are gearing up for this sort of stuff (poles, pavement gullies, etc.).

In most places, especially large towns  and cities, if you don' have off-road parking you can forget charging at home. Many  people are lucky to park within 50 yards of heir home.

There's a fair amount of public money in the pipeline for 'solving' this problem.  This will attract interest from people with potential solutions.... whether they ultimately work or not.

The details - like being able to 'reserve' the space on the road outside your home - are for someone else to work out.

Nothing to do with them. It's down to council on what they are prepared to allow.

You misunderstand. Why I'm surprised is that, regardless of what councils allow or don't allow, many drivers are unable to routinely park near to their houses. So there would be little point in them paying to have a gully or pole installed.

I suppose they have done their research but I would be surprised if there was much of a market for those products.

A lot of people want them, but many councils are being risk adverse. Not wanting to spend time & money if it is worth it, as there is nothing in it for them, other than maybe a claim as they have approved the gullies etc.

There is quite a lot that do allow them & some have funding for them.
As with many things, it's a post code lottery 🤷‍♀️
