Person tripped over my outside cable cover whilst charging car...

None of the houses within a half mile radius of mine have drives and there are no on-street charging facilities. You have to travel over a mile either to Waitrose or Asda to find charging facilities.
As long as it's possible for foolish people to charge at home by simply laying a trip hazard across the pavement, some people are going to do it.
As a society we seem to have thrown a lot of of effort into encouraging people to buy EVs but haven't ensured the infrastructure to support them is in place first
But it should be the manufactures who do this, as Tesla have done. Not rely on councils to fund for people that do not have drives etc.
Maybe that like people with drives now have to buy their own chargers now. That councils, where people are without a drive are allowed to do the same at the roadside.
One reason Tesla is the best selling in the world. You get the whole package. Which to boot is pretty much the cheapest charging you can get out & about.
* although the infrastructure is there now, well over 70K, it is not just as affordable compared to home charging. By next year there will be a 1000 charge points to each petrol station.
Could easily be helped if people with home chargers shared them with people that did not have home facilities. As very few need to charge every night. Average UK miles will be once a week at best. So charger is doing nothing most days & nights when they could be shared with the many who can not charge at home.Life in the slow lane0 -
I wonder if the OP has heard back from the alleged victim yet.
I say alleged as the OP said there were other miscreant EV chargers on their street, and that the victim had offered no evidence it was the OPs charger that caused their injuries.0 -

And given the state of local authority finances, it isn't realistic to think that the facilitation of private on-street charging is going to be cost-free to the owner. Nor is it likely that each EV owner will be given a dedicated parking bay outside their home, so having paid for the facilitation of an EV charging cable, there will be no guarantee the owner will be able to use it. That might make private on-street charging so unattractive that, coupled with extended vehicle range and better regulation of council/corporate charging points, few people bother with it.
Plenty of councils have on street charging & there are no issues with it.Moreover, there is a fundamental issue in that councils outside London don't (AFAIK) have the legal power to allow or install on-street charging points (possibly why some councils are prioritising their off-street car parks).

(mixture of on and off-road spaces in that list)Yes, lots of councils are installing them, but AFAIK only the ones in London (including TfL) have the necessary legal power. I guess the other ones either haven't thought about whether or not they need the additional powers, or else don't care that they are doing something they aren't allowed to do. (or they have obtained the powers and I just can't find the legislation)0 -
Came across this. I also spotted (but cannot find it now) where a local authority is trialling this.

Might be safer to put up a 12ft pole on his property with a 4ft arm at the top with a cable trailing down to the car.....
