That is pretty Sallyforth.  I find that using citronella tea lights help keep the little flies away too.

I'm stuck on my greenhouse irrigation system - I've realised I need a waterbutt at the front as the micro-hose needs to come through the door. I've ordered the parts I need (new gutter end and downpipe clip) as I have a spare water butt which I will move over there shortly. It needs a tap fitting - but I have a tap. I just need to make sure it will fit (I may need to move a pile of compost, in which case I'll empty it.

So instead of getting that set up (I've got all the stuff out), I'm going to focus on fitting the auto-openers for the louvre vents. There are three to do, and they SHOULD be straightforward. I'll try one, and see. Then get back to laying out the micro hose, and deciding whether I'm going to build a bed in the greenhouse or grow in pots. Pots may be easier this year, and I do have plenty.

I have FINALLY emptied the second bag of bark! 🎉🥳🎊🤩😊👏 Mr KK pleased as it means he has a gap he can get his historic vehicle out through … 😉

Also working my way through an historic OAT ….
Eons ago … (maybe 4 gardens ago?) I bought a (very heavy!) bag of ground up volcanic rock that is supposed to be very rich in minerals that help soil fertility. It’s moved house with us several times and the outside of the bag was splitting due to UV exposure and it had a ‘hat’ of a dandelion and moss … 😂 Between us we heaved it into the wheelbarrow and I had at it with a lump hammer until it fell apart and I could pick out the moss, dandelion and bits of plastic. I am just in the process of sprinkling it around the garden 😊

    - OPs to mortgage = £11,338 Interest saved £5225 to date
Fixed rate 3.85% ends January 2030

I used to use that volanic rock dust KK. I'm not sure I'd have moved it several times though - well done on using it up.

I haven't got the irrigation system set up BUT
    • I have all the bits
    • I have moved the big spare water butt into position and installed the tap
    • I have ordered the bits I need to add another downpipe to the greenhouse
    • All three auto-openers are installed on the louvre vents
    • Insect fogger has been set off in the small shed
    • Hose adapter has been stuck on the outside tap on the patio (spare ones nearby in case this one leaks)
    • Trees and hedge were watered, and trees mulched with compost taken out of two raised planters that needed emptying
    • Raised planters moved/rearranged to where they need to be for salad and carrot growing
    • Rest of spent compost put in veg beds that have been slightly enlarged due to having new sides
The greenhouse will need a bit of a tidy tomorrow, and I think I need to put the irrigation system together to make sure it will run where I need... which means thinking about a plan of what will go in there and where.

Oh @greenbee I am totally in awe. My Mother used to do stuff like you’re doing and really I should be more like you and her but it will never happen. So many talented gardeners on this thread to motivate me though!

I'm busy ignoring my greenhouse-related OAT (trying to get a pipe from the greenhouse itself into the water-collecting IBC) but I have been pottering outside a little. Shifted one barrow of cut grass from the hay field to the veg patch - far too cold and windy to do any more today but I'm going to try and do a barrow or two every day before this year's grass starts growing through it.

Brought the hay box into the house, ready to make a cushion for the top.

Ordered a tonne bag of top soil in a bid to not need some kind of moon buggy to mow the grass  NO idea how a levelling project is going to go, but between moles, cows, sheep, stupid delivery drivers, and the whole place trying to revert to being a field, I'm in danger of breaking an ankle every time I peg the washing out, so we'll see.
