Thanks PIP, mostly the outcome is predictable in that I am spending more than I realise, fixed bills are up and my income from interest has obviously reduced. All the little bits soon add up. If I don't want to work then I need to keep a tighter control. I was writing every single thing down in a notepad but stopped for no good reason.
I must get on with some seed sowing tomorrow. Easter weekend is a fairly traditional for catch up gardening anyway.
Sallyforth I would go with debt free diaries section given that you haven't got a mortgage anymore and your aim is to stay out of debt.My mortgage free diary: https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/6498069/whoops-here-comes-the-cheese

Great thread here
I love the OAT reframe - mine is an overseas tax exemption form I must do tomorrow ..
DON'T BUY STUFF (from Frugalwoods)
No seriously, just don’t buy things. 99% of our success with our savings rate is attributed to the fact that we don’t buy things... You can and should take advantage of discounts.... But at the end of the day, the only way to truly save money is to not buy stuff. Money doesn’t walk out of your wallet on its own accord.

Yesterday's OAT for me was finally getting the red engine light in the car fixed - it's been rumbling on for weeks and has been to the garage 3 times, hopefully this was the last! 😬
Today's is putting another shelf up in the study - I think that's been on my list for about 2 years 😂
Oh, and replying to the LPG people, mustn't keep putting that off3 -
Avoided an OAT by changing the batteries in the thermostat this morning when it sent me an alert to tell me they needed doing!
Builders have put up shelves, so I'm busy reconnecting all my connected devices to the internet on tidy shelves instead of a mess of cables on top of a cupboard.4 -
Cleaned and reorganised under the kitchen sink, tidied email inboxes2

Today I managed to fix the petrol lawn mower, and mowed the lawn to make sure it was working properly. I can see why they hate doing it, it gets stuck in the dog holes which makes it very hard work.My mortgage free diary: https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/6498069/whoops-here-comes-the-cheese

Sorted out my wardrobe and swopped winter clothes for summer clothes so it will probably snow next week. I wasn't completely reckless and kept back some warm clothes just in case.
sorted through a box of stationery and can reassure fellow posters on this thread that in the event of a worldwide shortage of A4 plastic wallets we will be ok as I can supply us all with plenty of them.4 -
Not much done here by me, but yet more by the builders - wonky door fixed (well, architrave adjusted so that it doesn't look so wonky), utility door frame reattached to the wall so it doesn't feel like the shutting the door will push the frame out, rail put on the wall side of the stairs, shelves put up under the stairs, porous brick painted with waterseal, summerhouse doors taken off and adjusted so they now open and close.
For tomorrow, I need to:
Write a thank you letter detailing how I have (finally) spent a small legacy
Accept plumber's quote and get the work booked in
Write a thank you whatsapp for some easter eggs I was sent
Over the long weekend I need to finish pressure washing the patio, fence the veg plot, make the rest of the raised beds, build the arches, pot on the seedlings that are rapidly outgrowing their current homes.3 -
I have a thing for plastic A4 wallets too @Blackcats … 😉 Thank you for your service! 😂
I did an OAT yesterday. Rang the pet insurers and finally told them that George died last December. That’s obviously been a long outstanding issue but I just couldn’t face it at the time and then subsequent events rather overtook me … Refund of £175.99 on its way to me.Now I have finished my job and before starting my new one I am hoping to get back onto OATs again rather than just only just running hard to keep up!KKAs at 15.07.25:
- When bought house £315,995 mortgage debt and end date at start = October 2039 - now £233,521
- OPs to mortgage = £11,338 Interest saved £5225 to date
Fixed rate 3.85% ends January 2030

So far this morning I have ... started to write what I've done and realised I could tick a couple more things off the list before finishing typing...
Paid a couple of bills
Emailed the plumber to accept an estimate and get a date out of him
Messaged someone to thank them for a gift
Messaged a friend who has been made redundant to check in on them
So four things off my list. About 20 left (need to add washing the cat and dog bedding)5
